Q: We are going to re-carpet my grandmothers living room, but she is very sensitive to smells. Is there a certain kind of carpet with limited quot;new carpet smellquot;?: there are some carpets that don't off-gas as much smell, but here's a tip that interior designers do for commercial installations: As soon as the carpet is laid, close all the windows tight and turn the heat up really high 90 if you can, let the heat run for at least a few hours, overnight is best. This will burn up 90% of the new carpet smell, its also good for anytime you paint, vanish, or glue. Then turn the heat down and open a few windows and let some fresh air in. This is done in most large commercial buildings before people occupy it since industrial carpets, glue, and paint are a little more toxic. Sometimes they'll let it bake for 24 hours to get rid of any smells. Otherwise it may take a few weeks for the smell to go away

Tell me about your experience with it.Thank you!: Since your house is newer, unless you specifically purchased carpet with flame resistance, it's going to be a synthetic material like nylon or polypropylene with a really low melting point. All of the different types have a lower melting point than wood will burn at. The question you need to ask the fireplace salesman is, what temperature does the unit emit at the base? If it's enough to melt the material, put clay bricks underneath it. Clay is a natural insulator, and you can set em up in some art deco style manner. Also little sparks have a tendency of getting in carpet and I have a woodburning fireplace in the basement, it's messy; bringing in wood brings in bugs, look up your local bugs.. So make sure you plan for keeping the carpet clean and spark-free!

It s called pilling and fuzzing. Very common in staple type carpet. Most carpets are staple products. It will stop shortly unless there a defect in the carpet ( rare but it happens) Defiantly keep vacuuming. It s the best thing for carpets. Manufactures actually say to vacuum every day( YEAH LIKE THATS GOING TO HAPPEN LOL) GL

Q: how do i get rid of a carpet burn please help: If it's a wall to wall carpet, get the professionals to replace the burnt part, if it's an area rug, throw it away.

Q: I am looking at the prices of rugs and I just want to know what they are used for and when you would use them etc. I am from the UK by the way.:) thanks in advance! x: It is an extra layer to put under an outer rug for example it replaces a stable blanket that goes under a jute or stable rug. It gives extra warmth and rather like when we wear a blouse or a polo neck under a woolen jumper! It can also prevent friction which could cause sores or bald patches especially on the shoulders. I wish we had them in my day - a 5 foot girl trying to put two or three heavy blankets on a 17-18hh horse and THEN a rug is very hard work!

Q: I have dark brown (medium chocolate, I'd call it) warm modern style leather sofa and love seat in a white room with 10 foot ceilings (I can't paint). The floors are oak, as is one book case (modern lines, arts and crafts style detail). The feet of the sofa are a dark walnut color. The accent pieces in the room will be yellow hues (artwork, vase, throw pillows). What sort of area rug should I get? Colors, patterns? Links to examples would be awesome. I'm getting more furniture, but I think the rug could really warm up the room. Q: it has a big yellow spot on the carpet now..: There's really nothing you can do. If you have any carpet left over, or can buy a small amount from a dealer.. You can cut around the stain and replace the carpet. You'll have to get special carpet tape (It's a sticky rubbery substance on both sides with strings in it.) and a carpet iron (Basically how it sounds. You plug it into the wall, it gets hotter then a clothing iron would and it melts the two pieces of carpet together.) to do it. But if you do it right, no one will notice a seam in the carpet. There's no way to dye it because the dyed carpet will never look like the original carpet.

What's good?: My advice is to choose a large area laying vinyl woven carpet, so as not to breed mites nor bacteria moldy, cleaning care is also very simple, good vinyl woven carpet on the choice of the Swedish dragon carpet, if not too clean trouble, or simply choose a small decorative blanket can be considered if more than other traditional brand carpet.
