Q: for standard electric wiring, do I cut the white wire or the black wire to not get shocked?: either cut the breaker or use a wire tester. Never assume that it is wired properly or you may get shocked

Thanks: You should terminaqte all 8 wires even when running at 100M 10M speeds are ok using just the 4, but at 100M, while the unused pairs do not carry a signal, they do help with attenuation.

Q: Wire diagram: Hello there George, It has become common over the past few years that non-residential boilers are wired with EPO (emergency, power off) switches just outside each door to the boiler room. This is similar to having fire alarm pull boxes by the exits. I do not know of any jurisdiction that requires it for a residence. On occassion I've seen the 24 volt circuit for the thermostat being switched, which is a bit sketchy. Normally the 120 volt circuit for the controller is switched. The switches used are of the pushbutton type.

Q: I have two black wires running to a light switch that I need to extend about a foot. I cannot identify the hot wire because both wires are black and I have no white wire. Can I cap off both wires and then test each with a voltmeter? If the circuit is not complete, will the hot wire still be live?: ok, a light switch is different then a outlet plug. the black wire is the hot wire and comes in to one side if the switch and goes out the other side. the switch just open the circuit to turn off the light or closes the circuit to turn it on.
