- Q: I have a large attic with sloped ceiling which are covered with rolls of fiberglass insulation. I use my attic for storage and am up there frequently, and for long periods of time. I would like ideas on what material could be used to cover the exposed insulation, so that I'm not breathing in the fiberglass.Cost and easy installation is a factor. I do not want to put up drywall or any type of regular ceiling, because if there's ever a leak, I want to be able to access it easily. Some sort of lightweight material that comes in a roll that I would be able to install with a staple gun would be great - but not plastic, because I don't want to worry about condensation and mold building up in the hot summertime. All ideas are welcome, and if you know the price of the material you're suggesting, please include it in your answer. Thanks everybody!
- Lots of great answers already for this
- Q: Our basement family room has an insulated ceiling but the bedrooms do not. One bedroom is below a bathroom and it gets very loud because of a water waste pipe. We have a storage room that has open access to the ceiling space. It would be about 20ft that we would have to push insulation into. This seems like it would be very hard with traditional roll insulation. It would be very easy to put some lengths of soundboard or xps or something in, but I don't know if it would achieve the desired effect. Thanks in advance.
- XPS - expanded polystyrene - would be a poor choice for sound insulation. Better than nothing, but not a great result for the money compared to some other choices. Fiberglass insulation does a surprisingly good job of reducing sound transmission. Add a ceiling to the joists above: suspended noise attenuation board - ask around at musical instrument stores for suggestions where to get that - can help a lot but it's pricier than other ceiling choices, so limit its use to where it's needed most: right around that pipe. If you're really sick of the noise, go nuts: Frame for a box of acoustic ceiling to go right around that entire pipe. Acoustic ceiling, also called drop ceiling tiles, again isn't everything it could be but it has the advantages of being cheap and easy to install. Make a trough that goes up against the floor above and box in that pipe. You might lose some tiles in the event of a future leak, but no biggie: the tiles are cheap. Now insulate around the box and under the floor above, same as you did elsewhere in the basement. Now install a dropped ceiling in the entire space. The noise from the pipe will probably still be audible, but it should be nothing like what it was.
- Q: We just had our first child, and his room is right above the garage. It is noticebly colder in his room, especially the floor. I used the plastic window kits and that helped, however, the floor is still extremely cold and I would like to at least check the insulation in the garage ceiling. Right now there is drywall on the ceiling, but I have no qualms about ripping it down, not real worried what it looks like. What should I look for...I believe there is very old (50 years) fiberglass insulation but i'm not 100% sure. If there is the old insulation there...should I look to replace it? If so, with what R value...Is this a project that someone without specific experience in the field could complete? I'm pretty handy but certainly not a pro. I'm not worried at all how it looks in the garage.
- thats a good question i would definetly insulate the garage but see if theres a special garage insulation maybe something that has a vapor barrier against car fumes or sometime of extra fire resistant stuff i know they have a noise reducing insulation
- Q: the fabric lining my jeep's ceiling is missing in the front of my car. came down in bits and pieces and i wasn't able to reattach it. there's a material underneath that looks something like yellow fiberglass??? is that right? is it safe to be exposed to this? i don't use the car much so i haven't had it fixed yet but i'd like to know what i'm dealing with here. thanks for any help!
- its not fiberglass, its a hard resin foam. Will do no harm, unless you chew it up and swallow it or snort it... But being exposed to it is not bad for your health..

- The main ingredient in quartz stone made of silicon oxide! The
- Q: How to design a small living room look good.
- It is best to have a simple map. There are doors and windows of the size
- Q: I'm remodeling a bathroom, and I need to know the best insulation for sound/moisture? Also should I use the regular drywall or the green one on the ceiling?
- On new houses, they insulate the ceilings with fiberglass batts, and use regular drywall on the ceilings. When I remodeled our bath, I used green board everywhere and I tiled the ceiling of the shower. A lot of work, but worth it.
- Q: What is the candle effect?
- For the natural phenomenon, there is a relatively reasonable explanation, known as the candle effect. Scientists believe that we can put a person wearing clothes, conceived as a candle inside and outside, clothes are candle, body fat is wax. Even a small flames may penetrate the skin, ignite the fat, and then slowly and continuously burn. ????Candle effect proved that the body itself has a burning source, as long as the environmental conditions meet, the human body can self-destruction. Is considered a case of spontaneous combustion in the body there is a frequent clue: smoking. Scientists believe that smoking may accidentally ignite what, most likely the bed of things; then, by the carbon monoxide choking faint, then, the fire into the skin, lit fat, people into a slow burning candles. The clothes and sheets are like candles, and the fat is wax. The heat of the fire is not high enough, so no other items in the room are burned. ????The truth is that no one has ever witnessed a person or an animal to burn himself and to ashes. Worse still: in the case of suspected spontaneous combustion of the human body, the victims are mostly elderly, weak people, often overweight, smoking and other issues, and are living alone.
- Q: My studio apartment doesn't have an attic. A lot of the installation videos and articles I read online are about installing foil insulation a couple inches below the roof and above the room's ceiling. Does it matter if I install it under the ceiling (that is, the foil barrier is visible to me when inside the apartment)?Aesthetics isn't an issue. I don't mind seeing the foil. I just want to know if I can still achieve the same results whether or not I install above the ceiling. Thanks!
- If I were you I would go with 4X8 half inch foam insulation sheets from home depot. 12 bucks each and a snap to put up. You might even want to double them.
- Q: New home decoration is the choice of all-inclusive or half-pack good?
- All-inclusive peace of mind half-bag assured if you choose the whole package recommended the use of materials and specifications in parallel into the contract if the choice of semi-package to run the market do not easily meet the gold than the three do not suffer to the seller to obtain quality assurance
