Q: About a week ago, all the overhead lights in my apartment would not turn on. My landlord called her brother over and they replaced a faulty wire in my bedroom ceiling. Then the stove wouldn't workan electrician came and said they bumped the breaker out of place when they were fixing the other thing, and that's why the stove wouldn't go on. He put the breaker back into place and the stove works. I think the landlord should check the wiring to make sure everything is ok, but she keeps fixing just the problemsShe never had anyone come to look at all the wiring in the house. With what happened in the bedroom, is this an idication of a bigger problem?
only a licensed electrician may work on commercial wiring, unless this is an illegal apartment call an electrician and bill your land lord. otherwise you are on your own.
Q: I love squirrels, but they nibble at everything, which includes the electrical wires. I don?t want to cause them any harm but is there a way to make them go away? I tried to make it difficult to climb up the house but they are experts at it
Try Mothballs the keep mice out it myth Work with Squirrels
Q: I have a garden shed to which I would like to run electrical power. I have a source of power in my workshop that has a few open breakers in a 125AMP panel. Any running from the current panel to the garden shed would be roughly 60 feet long. I was thinking of running a 10-3 wire with two hots, a common and the ground to split into two circuits once I got to the shed. One would be for a few outlets (internal and outside) and another circuit for the lighting. I would be exiting the workshop for about 20 feet to get to the garden shed where I would put the cable 18 underground in a 1 1/2 inch conduit. If this is OK, what sort of breakers would I need at the workshop panel? I was thinking 2 20-amp single pole for each wire (hots-redblack), the common to the neutral bar and of course the ground. Is this enough information to help me ensure I would be NEC compliant? Any safety issues? Is there a better way to do this?
Generally what you are proposing would work except you need to use a 2-pole breaker to feed it. If you are going to use 10-3 uf you don't need and shouldn't use conduit at all, and you can't use NM-B in a wet location, which buried is considered wet. If you do use conduit you can use thhn conductors and just a 1/2 conduit. Conduit needs to have 18 cover, and UF cable needs 24. #10 wire may actually be larger than necessary, single phase 120v with #12 loaded to 20 amps would produce a 4% voltage drop, 5 percent is considered acceptable, any load on the opposite leg or less than full load would reduce the voltage drop. And then garden shed, you would have to treat this like a separate building, a service rated disconnect (or panel) and ground rods would be required. Skipping the ground wire is no longer legal.
Q: Will the total electricity is 3000W, how much square copper to use, the calculation method is? The The The Thank you!
Can buy a TV box. Satellite connected to the antenna to connect the TV box, the TV box can even the computer! It 's not so much trouble at all in terms of speed, and it' s just as hard as you can.
Q: I am prepping it for a derby and accidentally cut the fuel pumps electrical wire harness thinking it was stereo or tail lights. I just want to hook it up to start it and move it to the shop where i can really tear into it. There are 4 wires. Black, purple, grey, and black w/ yellow stripe. I want to bypass the electrical connectors and just splice it into the wires that run along the drivers side floor. What color wire is what and what color do i splice it to?
Easy way? The gray is the pump. Run it to a hot key wire or a toggle switch. Run the other two black wires to ground.
Q: I notice that theyre usually associated with two poles
Both the hot and the neutral comprise the circuit for a 120 volt circuit. In a 240 volt circuit, the two hot wires carry current and the neutral doesn't, unless the device has both 120 and 240 volt devices associated with the main device. The above statement is relative to the USA normal household service. This service is a split-phase service from the secondary of a 120/240 volt system. The neutral (center tap of the secondary) is grounded. The neutral is a conductor just as the hot wires are. The hot wires are designated 'hot' because they are not grounded. If you touch one of the hot wires while simultaneously touching something that's grounded (including yourself), you will receive an electrical shock, sometimes resulting in death. The neutral, being grounded, will see a volt or two potential difference between the neutral and ground. This is more pronounced, if the circuit is carrying a load. If the load in your home is completely balanced on both hot wires, the neutral will carry no current between the circuit breaker panel and the transformer. The neutral and the hot wire of a circuit changes polarity 120 times per second. TexMav
Q: Electrical line is already available so what are pros and cons other than ease of installation for solar-powered? This is for a walkway from our driveway to front steps.
Wired Landscape Lighting
Q: I have two lights that are wired into one light switch. I would like advice on what would be the easiest way to separate them and put the second light onto it's own switch.
If Lediy99's condition does not exist you would have to run a new wire to one of the lights. There are also some electronic switching devices available that you may like to try instead of running new wire. You can buy a remote control switch (usually designed for and sold in the ceiling fan department). The switch device mounts underneath the light along with a receiver. A remote communicates with the switch device and turns the light on and off
Q: I have a 15A 120V circuit that has a ceiling light controlled by an end-of-run-switch. At the switch box there is the ground wire, black wire and the white wire which is colored black.I would like to install an outlet between the ceiling light and the switch that would also be controlled by the switch. Can this be done, and if so, what would the wiring arrangements be?I have good access to where I want to install the outlet and could change or replace the wire between the outlet and the switch. Changing any of the rest of the wiring would be a real project though.(As to my own abilities here, I've done a lot of straight-forward barn type wiring on my farm (outlets, 3- and 4-way switches, etc.) and understand what the black-colored white wire means in this situation. But I wouldn't presume to wire a house.)Thanks!
from the fan box in the ceiling run a romex cable to the outlet so you have a hot, neutral and ground. the black wire coming from the fan box and going to the outlet should be tapped from the hot wire being controlled by/downstream of the switch and powering the fan, not the hot wire powering/going to the switch. make sure your switch is rated for the amount of amps needed.
Q: I did something very dumb, took a notebook adapter, 19.5 volts 4.62 amps, and atached the two wires to both sides of my head i held it there for sometime and all of a sudden one end got real hot,and I felt the most emotionally depressing , painful feeling in that area. like a frying sensation.I am worried because my head, that exact spot has been hurting on and off for a couple days now, and i have sometime mild pain in and above the eye, which is a symptom of aneurysm.does anyone in here, with knowledge of physics, know what would passing a current like that do to brain tissue?should I be worried, go to ER or just wait a few more days.?
Definitely go to the ER, the worse it can be is a brain aneurysm, the best a mild headache. Get yourself checked out, and I recommend in the future don't be as dumb as this! Yes, see the octoroon, they might scan your head and then if necessary, remove the problem. I am familiar with Physics, but unaware of the current which could affect the brain tissue. Probably do some damage at the least. Better to be safe then sorry, hey? Dr Dan (Also when you said you attached two hot wires to your head, was it by your ears?)
