Q: I wired up my brothers stereo in his 1994 volvo 850. At the time, I knew nothing about wiring harnesses so I did everything one wire at a time. I got it working but the stereo can still run with the car off. If you turn the radio off, a small led stays lit on the front. My brother couldn't get his car to start this morning. Could this little light be drawing enough power to run the battery dead over night? Should he just get a wiring harness and hook wires up like that?
If the stereo runs even with the ignition turned off, then you have wired a continuous power supply to the radio instead of an accessory, and that will drain his battery. I always recommend using a wiring harness when installing an aftermarket stereo, as there is no way you can accidentally wire something wrong.
Q: A long horizontal wire carries a current of = 52 . A second wire, made of 1.00--diameter copper wire and parallel to the first, is kept in suspension magnetically 5.0 below. What is the magnitude of the current in the lower wire?
The lower wire is kept in suspension magnetically means that the downward force of gravity is equal to the upward magnetic force. Its NOT an easy problem so we need to solve it in small steps. Let's find the two forces acting on the lower wire: (*) Downward force of gravity = mg = (volume) x (density) x (gravitational acceleration) = (pi r^2 L) x(8920)x(9.8) = 0.06896L We assume the radius of the wire is 0.5 mm or 0.0005m, copper density is 8960 N/m^3, gravitational acceleration = 9.8 m/s^2 (**) Upward magnetic force = mu(zero) x i(one) x i(two) x L / (2 pi d) = 2.08x10^(-4) L i(two) mu(zero) is a constant = 4 pi 10^(-7), i(one) is the current in the first wire = 52A, i(two) is the unknown current in the second wire, d is the distance between the wires = 5 mm or 0.005m The forces are equal, therefore 0.06896L = 2.08x10^(-4) L i(two) We divide both sides by L (the unknown length of the lower wire) and now we can solve for the current i(two) ANSWER: i(two) = 331.5 A
Q: I have a grounding wire for my HIDs which I need to increase the length for. How do I do this?
Get a roll of cable from a shop like halfords and connect together with connector block. Of just connect the original wire to a metal part of the car close to the light. Just have to scratch a bit paint off for a good connection
Q: Why do two parallel wires carrying currents in opposite directions repel each other?
Parallel Wires
Q: my internet wont pick up my wireless adapter thing now, because the internet box was reseted. How can I change it to wired?
Depending on your setup, you'll need to connect your Xbox and router (internet box) with an ethernet cable
Q: I have a 98 RS Eclipse (420a) and i would like some opinions and recommendations for spark plug wires. Who makes the best or very good wires for my engine??
Buy the stock wires. Make sure there is no oil on the old wires or you will need to replace the valve cover gasket and the 4 plug tower seals that are inside the valve cover. The motor came with Champion plugs, don't use Bosch.
Q: I bought a bathroom fan timer and tried to install it. It has four wires and the wall switch circuit has only 3 wires. What do I do?
4 Wire Switch
Q: I have a 200 amp main breaker just below my meter, which is mounted on a pole. The neutral wire coming in is run to ground. From this box, I've run 2 cables (1/0) ~80 ft to another box with a 150 amp main breaker. This box is grounded to an 8ft ground rod. I am wondering whether this setup (no neutral wire from meter pole to building) would potentially allow a ground fault without tripping the 200 amp main. For example, if somebody dug into the line with a backhoe? Oh yeah, the cable is in a 3ft deep trench that will be covered. I have an abridged version of the NEC, but I haven't found this particular topic covered. Thanks.
Good job, Amy. I'll bet you didn't post a question here similar to: Waz the difference between nuetral and ground. I nned to now this for my electian exam tomorow.
Q: My house is currently wired using Cat-5 lines. If I were to replace the Cat-5 wiring with Cat-6 wiring, would I see an increase in my DSL speed?
If you have a proper install of Cat-5 lines, then you probably won't see any improvement by upgrading the lines. Of course, if you question the quality of the old install - maybe frayed cables, maybe the ends are stripped too far back - mayby the lines run right against your AC power lines... Then a proper install of Cat6 (or anything comparable) will help improve speed inside your house. Things to keep in mind: - like another poster said; most DSL service doesn't even come close to the 100MB rating of Cat5. Cat5e and Cat6 are -theoretically- faster, but you can't make the bits move any faster than what your ISP gives you. - If you had an older install of Cat5, the installer might only be using 2 pairs of the 4 pairs of copper wire. Newer stuff, Cat5e and Cat6 require using all 8 conductors ( 4 pairs). If your old wiring was splitting off telephone service using the 'spares' - then you will need extra wiring to do this right. the comment about Cat# = # of twists per inch is not correct, either. the standard says something like.. Cat3 has about 3-4 twists per foot, Cat5 has about 3-4 twists per inch. Cat5e adds more twists, and requires all conductors. Cat6 more twists, and still all conductors. Cat7 proposal will have more twists, and braided shielding.
Q: I need to buy some electrical wire for my car, does it matter what color the copper wire is inside of ( i.e. black, yellow, red, green, blue, etc.)
Color in electronics wire does not matter. It is simply so you can trace that the blue wire goes from here to there. Generally the Black is ground and Red is supply. In house AC wiring the black is hot, white is ground or neutral and green is earth or frame ground.
