- Q: Hi, i'm making a paper mache mask and i forgot to put plastic foil on the mold before applying the layers of paper machenow i am trying to separate the mold from the paper mache mask but is really difficultdoes anyone have any suggestions??thank you!!
- You don't say what material you used for the form and that could make a difference If you can't just pry it up slowly with a butter or palette knife, etcfrom the edges, you might try heating those areas or the whole mask to soften the glue a little (if you used glue for your papier mache), then try working at it that way Some glues aren't permanent, so those might be softened by re-wetting the whole thing, the removing (then stuff newspaper/etc under the wet mask while it dries for support)Or try flexing the form repeatedly if it's a flexible material, to loosen parts of the mask from itAlternatively you could try freezing the mask first? (And never forget the plastic wrap or aluminum foil release again! g) Good luck, Diane B.

- What an odd combination of finishing – building materialsIs the “brick” the normal 3 x 6 (approximately) red building brick? Or is what you are calling brick actually concrete blocks? I could understand the previous owner wanting to do something to cover-up concrete blocks, they’re structurally good for building but pretty much butt ugly unless the house design can support the concrete block lookCan’t imagine why anyone would want to cover up the “normal” red brick facing on a house, they are generally done very well and add immeasurable charm to the structure The only reason maybe the house was sheathed in siding is the brick underneath is in such bad shape they chose “cheap fix” and just covered over the mess? In case this is the issue, I would get a good trustworthy knowledgeable person to look underneath the “skin”, determine if there are real structural problems with the brick! Then make an offer on the house The only “benefit” to siding would be if insulation was added between the brick and the sidingThe added insulation factor is dependent on how thick the insulation is, and how sealed the insulation actually isInsulation with a bunch of air holes, or done poorly is no added benefit, and will only give vermin a place to live If the siding is simply “cosmetic” I would seriously consider taking off the siding, brick is much more classy and adds allot to the look and value of a homeThe other thing I would do is wander around the block-find people who have lived there for several years and ask them what the house looked like before the siding and why the siding was put on in the first place !! CHECK WITH THE NEIGHBORS!! hope this helps
- Q: I know there is a handy household tip for cleaning tarnished silver, but I can't remember what it is! Anybody??
- The construction paper part of this is irrelevantThe main part of this is the BlackYou can use anything black, even spray paint itThe black absorbs the suns energy more effeciently than lighter colorsIf you are going to spray paint it, use flat or matte blackIt absorbs better than glossyGood Luck,
