- Q: HOW do you take a toliet up, and fix the floor before it falls in .
- Taking the toilet up is the easy part. There should be two bolts on the sides of the base that have to come loose. A lot of the time these are rusted or corroded so badly that you have to use a hacksaw to cut them off. You'll need to cut the rotten part of the floor out to the center of the floor joists that are past where the rot stops. In the space between the joists it's a good idea to install a piece of lumber the same size as the joists between them so that the end of the new piece of plywood is sitting on something. Position the new piece so that it will be half under the old plywood so that it will support both the old and new pieces. Basically you want a square frame to hold up the new piece of floor you'll be putting down. The biggest problem is usually that since the toilet sits so close to the wall that sometimes the water damage extends underneath the wall. If that's the case, then I'd suggest calling in someone with experience. If not, then cut a piece of 3/4 inch plywood to fit the hole that you cut out. If you're putting linoleum of something soft down for the floor, then use wood putty to fill the gap between the old and the new sub-floor otherwise you'll be able to see where the gap is because the flooring will eventually sink into the gap. If you're doing tile, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

- WTF kind of question is that? Do you have concrete floors? Are your return air ducts on the 2nd floor really just holes in the floor to the first floor ceiling? Are the people on the 2nd floor always playing music? Does it constantly rain on the metal roof you may have? Are the floor joists on the first floor creaky? Is your furnace in the basement old and noisy? Are the people on the second floor extremely obese causing them top stomp everywhere? Is the house next to a very busy street? Do you have loud neighbors? Without any more information, I would say that the quietest place in the house is in the bathoom, in the bathtub, underwater,as you drown yourself.

- The others have said it correctly. A floor jack is a hydraulic jack, but not all hydraulic jacks are floor jacks. There are bottle jacks which you place in a spot and jack them up and floor jacks which have wheels to move them around easier. Floor jacks also usually lower to a lower level than bottle jacks and have a larger gripping surface plate that holds the vehicle much more securely. A floor jack also can not tip over the way a bottle jack can. (or sink into soft ground as easily) The 2 ton or larger is usually a good size and a set of jack stands are a good additional safety item to go with the jack. They will hold the vehicle up in case the jack loses its hydraulic fluid through a leak or simply not being locked in the up position properly. A floor jack also positions the pumping lever further away from the parts that actually lift the vehicle. This allows it to be pumped up from beside the vehicle vs a bottle jack where you have to pump the handle while under the vehicle.

- how tall are these adults? generally speaking floor hockey sticks have an inexpensive wood shaft and plastic blade. even the better ones by Mylec or Koho will be about $15 new and in hockey you want a stick to reach your chin and so even in you're gonna be playing in shoes they are only good for people up to 5'10 or so. oh and as far as where to get them? Sports Authority or Craig's List .. with the size of sticks OKorder might initially be a better deal but when you factor in shipping it will cost you more that way.

- I have found that just a good old 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water does a fine job. The cleaning mixes that are sold look nice until you walk on them, and then you see scuff marks like crazy. The vinegar solution does not make scuff marks and is a good cleaner, applied with a sponge mop. Just spray it on as you go.
- Q: I have a small house that is 3 feet off the ground on a permanent foundation (insulfoam block). It is completely enclosed and has a vapor barrier on the dirt under the house. The floor is a standard wood floor with floor joists and has carpet and pad on it. I notice that the house is warm....but the floor is cool and it feels breezy at floor level. I was wondering if insulating the floor under the house may help?
