- Q: How do you upholster a sofa, what items are needed, how much fabric should I buy? Or am I better off buying a slipcover, but they never seem to fit right.
- Upholstering is a very hard job and you are right about slip covers. You can buy fabric and cover over the upholstery that's already there. You can use fabric tape and some fabric glue and a staple gun. Cover the cushions to start then use the fabric tape to hold it in place. Then cover the arms and such and staple it underneath the sofa on the wooden frame. I DO NOT recommend this on a good sofa, but if it's something that you got at a yard sale, have fun.
- Q: Obviously, the PB sofa is nicer, but it costs three times as much. PB offers more choice of fabrics, but with a toddler, I think maybe I should just get a basic white that I can spot bleach when something gets spilled. On the other hand, in a few years, I might be really annoyed if I have to buy a whole new sofa from Ikea rather than just a new slipcover from PB, although a whole sofa from Ikea is still cheaper than a slipcover from PB.Any advice?
- i could attempt a dynamic development. maybe going with a diagonal striped blue/gold series. maybe 18 inch stripes or narrower blue stripes to bypass with the curtains. communicate matching the curtians to the wall colorings. The coffee is a reliable determination for many colours. in case you desire it lighter ... bypass with greater gold shade and thinner blue stripes. it is ordinary applying painters tape. in case you propose to sell bypass with a greater impartial shade that's no longer so dramatic.

- Siamese are dumb. Trust me, mine will 6 years old, and if he still had claws, the couch would be in ribbons by now. Squirt bottles will only work if your cat hates water. Carpet tape is good training, but depends on the kind of material the furniture is. They make a kind of spray to keep pets away from places you don't want then to be. I never had anything for my cats to sctatch on, but the cardboard kind might do the trick. I had a friend who has a hymalayian (part persian, part siamese) and that cat loves cardboard!

- Free plans for something like what you are asking are limited to a few wooden garden benches unless you find some really out of the way site that doesn't show up very high in the searches. There are many places that offer inexpensive plans for things like futons, nice benches with backs and other sofa like furniture. There are too many to list here, but a google search on wood sofa plans turns up quite a few.

- Emf meters only detect emf, not ghosts. Chances are that you or another person in the group got too close to the device and your electronic equipment (cell phones, cameras, etc.) provided the emf.

- Unfortunately you will have re-dyed the leather and so there is nothing on the DIY basis that will remove this. It will need a solvent to remove the marker and this will also remove the finish and pigment from your sofa (if it is a pigmented suite) which will then need replacing. This is best left to the experts. Call a trained leather technician to do the work. If it is an aniline style leather then the mark will be permanent and only time will help as it will dissipate and blend in slowly. Baby wipes will damage your leather so please do not try this. Hairspray sometimes works on pigmented leather but can also make matters much worse.

- Try scrubbing the stains with shaving cream. Then wipe with a clean wet cloth. Shaving cream is nothing but whipped soap that rinses off easily. - Well, Homer, if this is going to be your man room I think you should decide. I guess a lot depends on the amount of room you have, too. We have a lazy boy reclining sofa and love seat that hold 5 adults, which is nice if you are having the guys or family over and a pretty big coffee table. I don't know if you want a big, old chair for yourself or not. Are you going to get leather or cloth. I want to switch to leather just as soon as I get motivated, but it won't provide as much seating, I don't think. Enjoy whatever you choose.
