Q: I alsways see projects where there are these massive cranes sitting on top of huge buildings...how they hell do they get them up there?: The big tower cranes you see on high rise structures actually....lift themselves. Their bases sit inside square lattice support structures and can climb them. When they get to the top of the structure they raise two more half squares that are bolted together around the base of the crane and the crane can then climb into the higher structure. The process is repeated until they get to the height limit of the crane. It's pretty amazing. Sometimes the crane base remains at the bottom, but sometimes, they close the floor below and remove the base that is no longer used, and just march the whole crane up the floors. Smaller cranes can be lifted by mobile cranes that go elsewhere, but the big ones use the method above.

Q: I started to make 1000 paper cranes to make a wish come true and before I start I have a few questions. How many times can you make 1000 cranes to make a wish come true? Do you have to string them? And how long do you have to make them?: You only have to fold 1000 to make your wish come true. It doesn't matter how long you take on them, but they should look acceptable if you'd like to display them. All you really have to do is fold all 1000 cranes; you do not have to string them, but I think it looks very nice. You could also put them inside of a jar. :)

Q: When you're training to work in construction, do you need to do a seperate course or qualification in order to be able to operate a crane? Or are all construction workers taught it in training?: Of course you need specialised training! Crane operators have to sit several courses in safe crane operations. Crane operators tend to just work cranes and not help with general building work as they earn more money and it is only cost effective to have them on site when they are actually needing to use the crane.

Q: how much does a crane operator make ?: $35,000-55,000

Q: It frustrates me every time I play one of those games i never win. Is there a secret? If so then what is it?: It depends which type of animal crane you are talking about. If it's the jumbo cranes that pick up the huge stuffed animals, they are actually set to give out a win every so many plays, however the number of the winning play varies based on the location. If you are talking about the average sized cranes, the key is to look for a stuffed animal that is light up on top and bottom heavy. This will allow you to grab ahold of the head or neck and pick the animal up. I've found the easiest cranes to win on are the ones that you pick up beanie baby sized stuffed toys. They seem to win, every time you aim the crane to pick up the head or neck. It's a great way to rack up a lot of stuffed animals. While they may not be huge prizes they are reasonable ones, and some of them are pretty cute.

If Upton Sinclair's The Jungle is a torrent of social anger and protest, Crane's Maggie is like a brilliant lightning strike, flashing across our vision and leaving us temporarily blinded. The book--scarcely 70 pages--is succint, brutish, and merciless. Crane allows his readers to form their own opinions regarding the characters. His innovative use of near-phonetic spelling to depict in the reader's ear the local dialect of New York's rough neighborhoods was shocking and difficult to comprehend when the book was first released. It lends Maggie an air of earthy legitimacy. Ultimately, Maggie is a cry for the plight of poor children--the souls we overlook with a callous unease mirrored in Pete's offhand, uncaring rejection of young Maggie's genuine love and affection. It is, without qualification, Stephen Crane's greatest and most moving achievement.
