- You need to do a specific amount of hours in training to be a crane operator in Australia, I know that in Sydney, you are certified by the WorkCover Authority, or that's how it was many yeas back. Special emphasis is on loads, and point of load. We do not need a mobile crane tipping over do we. Safety, working near electrical, and on soft ground. Weight you can extend to on a jib. etc.

- Q:A crane operator was extended his Tadano crane boom(two section of boom out of five) at almost 0 degree boom angle. My question is-Is it safe to lift any load at 0 degree boom angle.
- I suppose Tadano is the manufacturer and they make several models most of which are safe at zero degrees with two sections extended. The weight of the extended cable and hook need to be added to the weight being lifted or lowered, so the allowable weight could be zero for a very long cable. Some safety factor is present, so you may choose to push your luck. A cable that breaks suddenly can whip around in a dangerous manner. If you bend the boom replacement will be very costly. If the boom was bent in a previous lift, it is much weaker than an unbent boom and the extending feature may jam. Neil

- There are two kinds of climbing mechanisms: hydraulic and mechanical. The hydraulic climbing mechanism consists of a ladder ladder, a hydraulic cylinder, a climbing beam and a support leg. The climbing ladder is composed of an upper and a lower bearing beams, separated by two stories, which are fixed on the wall or side beam of the cylindrical structure when the work is used, and both sides of the ladder stand are provided with steps. The load bearing beam corresponds to the four main limbs of the crane tower, and is equipped with 8 guide rollers, which plays a guiding role when climbing.

- What is the load weight? How high is the lift? Obstruction, possibly needing a jib? If you are placing a load onto a roof, how far from the edge of the roof is the load going to be placed? How far from the crane pivot is the load on the ground and how far are you going to to move the load away from the crane to place it in position? How close can you get the crane to the load and to the load placement site. The usual scenario is to call a crane outfit and they will ask you these questions over the phone or come to the site and discuss the lift with you. A crane is rated for maximum lift as close, usually 10 feet,to the cab pivot center. As the distance increases, the maximum load that can be lifted, decreases. Our 15 ton crane can pick 15 tons/ 30,000 pounds at 10 feet from pivot center. With the boom fully extended; the boom is 100 feet, at a 30 degree angle, it can pick up only 5,000 pounds.
