Q: I'm a guy who isn't extremely familiar with vacuum cleaners so maybe someone can help. I was running around the house with my Kenmore Progressive vacuum cleaner and I accidentally pushed the adjustable thingy that lets you set the height of the vacuum. This adjuster thing is about halfway down the silver tube. The second I touched it, the carpet cleaning part shut off so it's just sucking air. I pushed everything together as hard as I could trying to get it to come back on but with no luck. I had been vacuuming for quite a while. Do these things shut off when they get too hot and stay off until they cool? It seems kind of fishy that it died right when i touched the adjuster thing though. Any ideas?: sounds like you may have broken your belt when you adjusted the height. turn it over and turn it on, if the brush doesn't spin, you have to take the stupid thing apart and change the belt. this is the most common problem that people have with vacuums.

He said that I am allergic to dust mites, grass/weed, and cat hair. We have been cleaning our house top to bottom with a Hepa filter vacuum (Dyson) and installed bed covers and pillow covers that are dust mite proof. We have wiped down the walls, the roof, and pretty much everything but the itching continues. I don't go outside much and work from home. Does anyone know of what might cause this? We have ruled out lice or bed bugs. I don't know if it helps much but I've had gastric bypass surgery. Please help...we are driving ourselves nuts with the constant cleaning and vacuuming. How do they work in small rooms?: The new dyson dc24 with the ball is super duper light weight and easy to push and turn. I don't know anything about a shark. The dyson is nice because the hose is so easy to pop out, and it has a handle so one could easily clean crevices and corners. The switches are on the main part of the vacuum, right below the handle and above the canister. It would work very well in a small room because it is a small vacuum.

Q: what is the best brand of vacuum cleaner? I'm about to buy one!?: Consumer Reports is O.K. But you need to determine what kind of vacuum cleaner you want. Canister or upright, bag or bag-less, you know what you need. Don't spend a lot of money. Most units are made so cheaply they may be considered disposable.
