Q: A solar panel facing the sun at noon in mid-summer receives more intensity of the light than when it is at horizontal. However, it can receives more total solar energy when it is at horizontal than when it is tilted during a long summer day. Regradless if it is shaded by building or trees. why is that so?
Angle is everything. The more angled away from perpendicular, the more light energy simply bounces away. Think of it like a windmill that can only spin, it can't change direction with the wind. If the wind is pointed through the vanes, the vanes turn and power is generated. If the wind is coming from the side, nothing moves and no power is generated.
Q: I heard the wind turbines, solar panels so far provide America with around 2% of our energy. So since liberals appear to want to replace natural energy with man made products, that cause massive pollution by the way to make- How long will that take 30 years, 00 years? How many Wind Turbines will Airplanes and birds and parachute jumpers smash into, isn't that a problem? How do we rid of natural energy before we have the LIBERAL BACK UP PLAN - WE DON'T REALLY HAVE ? How do they think this is gonna work? Its not logical, we need to come up with more ideas! That Battery idea kinda sucks since Batteries Need natural energy to work.
Green technology at this stage is not viable for the long run...we don't have the technology as of yet to replace all other modes of energy...Windmill Farms are EXTREMELY ugly and kills thousands of birds and only work when the wind is actually blowing...solar is not ready for prime time, too expensive for the average joe...we should be pursuing other engines that would use less gasoline and some exist but nobody is promoting those because they are convinced electric cars are the way to go but those are a farce because we don't generate enough electricity now for homes to use, can you imagine how little we would have if all cars starting using that same energy? IT is a farce that during an economic crisis the current powers that be are wasting money on green technology garbage that won't work. We should be figuring out how to drill our own oil and get off foreign sources and build more plants to produce more electricity, not figure out how to use the little electricity we currently produce in all our vehicles...Liberals...what a concept.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on schools or educational campuses?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on schools or educational campuses. In fact, many educational institutions are increasingly adopting solar energy as a sustainable and cost-effective solution to meet their power needs. Installing solar panels on schools not only reduces electricity costs but also serves as an educational tool, allowing students to learn about renewable energy and environmental sustainability firsthand.
Q: What are the financial benefits of installing solar panels?
Installing solar panels can provide numerous financial benefits. Firstly, solar panels can significantly reduce or eliminate monthly electricity bills as they generate free and sustainable electricity from the sun. This can result in substantial long-term savings, especially in areas with high electricity rates. Moreover, solar panels often have a long lifespan, making them a worthwhile investment. Additionally, many governments and utility companies offer financial incentives such as tax credits, rebates, and net metering programs, further reducing the upfront cost and maximizing the financial return. Lastly, solar panels can increase the value of a property, making it more attractive to potential buyers and potentially yielding a higher resale value. Overall, by installing solar panels, individuals can save money, increase their property value, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Q: I need to build a battery array to use with my solar panels I just bought. I want to be able to store enough energy to be draw from it at night, possibly around the clock. Is there a down side to using the deep cycle battery I bought from autozone and 6 or 7 more just like it, or do I need to get some other battery?
There are batteries particularly made for solar, such as the Trojan T05-RE . I think the RE stands for renewable energy. A deep cycle battery should work all right, although not quite as well. What you want to do is try out your setup first, with just one battery, and the panels provided. If this is one of those 45 watt kits, you may be surprised at how little energy you actually get from the panels. Increasing the number of batteries won't help, either - that's like getting a larger water tank, when you only have a trickle to fill it. If your goal is really to save money, the most cost-effective solar is the grid-tied type, with no batteries at all. That's what we have, and I've never regretted it.
Q: If you were to be asked to write a material(s) report on either -solar panelsor -aircraft fuselageWhich would you choose?well i was asked to choose between these two,so i guess that if i choose what the majority wouldn't, i might just score a little bit higher, what do you think?if you are the lecturer you would want something different right?
If you pick the fuselage, look up friction stir welding. It's a low temp, solid state method of joining Al. I have taken a few classes (undergrad and grad) from Dr. Reynolds. This stuff is cool!
Q: Parents planning on buying some solar panels for our house down in Dubai it really hot there I'm currently living in Canada, anyways I'm wondering how many solar panels and volts ill need to light up a 2400sq ft. House? Please leave you're suggestions below!
It's not really the solar panels that power the house, they charge a battery bank and there's an inverter that jumps the battery power up to household current level. If you start getting into more expensive systems, they can sense when the batteries are full and start diverting power into the local electric grid. Some places the electric company is required to pay you for generating current, other places tell you tough luck. I suggest looking on OKorder or something at some of the home solar kits on sale there and look at how large a house they are rated for to get an idea of how big a system you're going to need. I don't know if you have access to the power bill history of the house you're getting in Dubai, but the power company there might be able to provide you with a history of average kW hours the house consumes. A 2400 sqft house with a gas stove and a gas water heater and wood heat is going to consume far less electricity than a house with all electric appliances and the consumption history of an individual house should reflect that so you can buy appropriately.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on public transportation systems?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on public transportation systems. In fact, many cities around the world are increasingly integrating solar panels onto buses, trams, and trains to harness clean energy and reduce carbon emissions. These panels can be installed on the roofs or sides of vehicles, enabling them to generate electricity and contribute to the power needs of the transportation systems.
Q: So I want to go completely solar. Do I need the connected solar panels alone for after sundown hours; Do I need something else in order to have energy to run my entire house throughout the night? In other words do solar panels store the energy for after sun-down or do I need other devices to store the energy?
solar panels don't store energy, they only generate it. If you want to store energy you need a battery bank of some kind to get you through the night and anytime the sun isn't shining. If you have a little extra in the budget you might look at a geothermal system for your home's heating and cooling needs. They're highly efficient systems and you can supplement however you like. Whatever you do, though I hope you have a good building envelope in place already. Solar panels are cool, but if you have a leaky house, you're still not getting the best out of your panels. Do the more mundane stuff first. Insulation, windows, and weather-tight doors.
Q: Got a small project here in a remote location. There is to be a 2 volt deep cycle battery, the equipment to be powered from battery and solar panel to charge battery. The 2 volt battery puts out 55 AH. the max constant power draw from the equipment to be powered is 7.9 watts. Will a 30 watt panel at 2 volts be enough to run this system during sunlight and charge the battery for the equipment to run overnight? And, at 55 AH, how long can I keep a constant draw of 7.9 watts without a recharge? Thanks to all the input!
