- Q: what are the number meanings for paper cranes?
- Hey Mary, Don't let the web site name fool you, it does discuss the deeper meaning behind paper cranes. Steeped in ancient myths and carrying resonant cultural meanings, the crane occupies a central role in the Asian imagination. Anyone who has witnessed cranes flying through the early morning mist over shimmering green rice paddies will readily understand how the mysterious beauty of the crane has captivated Asian life and art for centuries. Like the dragon, tiger, and phoenix, the crane ranks among the favorite motifs for Asian artwork because of its rich meaning and history. Read more at the web sites.
- Q: Old used 200 t crawler crane is available for purchase. What are the guidelines/ thumb rules for assessing its cost ?
- Supply vs demand Extreme examples: If the crane is no longer needed anywhere, the cost will be 0; no demand. If the crane still has a unique useable function and there is only one available, it's immediate cost will be very high; no supply. So, assuming that the cranes supply/demand is somewhere in the middle, the methodology for assessing it's cost would be to evaluate the following: * Where is it located with respect to where it is needed? (place value) * How quickly do I need it, and how quickly can I get the crane? (time value) * What alternative solutions are available? * How much do other similar cranes cost? * etc Hope this helps!
- Q: They like fly on peoples face, i dont know why they come up on the face and it creeps me out, i have no idea why it comes inside of the house in the first place?
- They come inside the house looking for mosquitoes! Crane Flies are great mosquito hunters, in fact we call them skeeter eaters. I'm from the south, plenty of mosquitoes here and we love Crane Flies. They're totally harmless to people or anything else besides mosquitoes, and since mosquitoes are proven carriers of numerous deadly diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, and the dreaded Nile virus, I'd much rather have Crane Flies around me than mosquitoes. Do yourself a favor and learn a bit more about these fascinating and very helpful critters, I'm sure you'll be willing to cut them a little slack if you do. edit Leolupus is correct! It turns out after 40 years I was completely wrong ~ they do *not* eat mosquitoes. I have been informed by an expert (my father-in-law, who is an entomologist at Texas AM and laughed at me when I mentioned this question my answer) that adult Crane Flies eat flower nectar, decaying vegetation, seedling plants, mosquito larva (but not adult mosquitoes) or nothing at all depending on their species. They are, however, harmless to humans since they're totally unable to bite, though they're considered a pest by some farmers due to the habit of some species of dining on young crops. Oh well, sometimes you start out trying to teach someone a lesson and you end up learning one instead. Thanks for bringing up this subject, Bebe :-)
- Q: its huge and it is in my kitchen what to do with it it is freakin me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I am not sure what you mean here. Crane flies are not venomous, they do not possess venom nor are in fact able to break human skin by biting. If you mean are they poisonous if ingested, that all depends upon which substances are present on or in its body...
- Q: Some of my friends are trying to see what is the most creative, yet still meaningful way to ask a girl to prom. I decided to use 1000 origami cranes, and for those who don't know, the meaning (in Japanese lore) behind 1000 cranes is that the maker gets to make one wish, and its also traditional to give them to someone to wish happiness and prosperity upon them.
- i think of it sounds large! ik i could like it if my crush did that! yet 1000? thats a good type of paper yet be beneficial to recycle regardless of is left over, it could probley make ur gurl happy that ur assisting the planet :)
- Q: What is a "crawler crane" and what kinds of jobs is it good for?
- *A crawler is a crane mounted on an undercarriage with a set of tracks (also called crawlers)that provide for the stability and mobility of the crane. Crawler cranes have both advantages and disadvantages depending on their intended use. The main advantage of a crawler is that they can move on site and perform lifts with very little set-up, as the crane is stable on its tracks with no outriggers. In addition, a crawler crane is capable of traveling with a load. The main disadvantage of a crawler crane is that they are very heavy, and cannot easily be moved from one job site to the next without significant expense. Typically, a large crawler must be disassembled and moved by trucks, rail cars or ships to be transported to its next location. Crawler cranes range in lifting capacity from about 40 US tons to 3500 US tons.
- Q: I have this assignment to find out how a climbing crane is able to move up the building as construction continues.
- They add extra stages from the bottom. A tower crane is erected from a boom assembly, first and second tower sections of different cross section, and a base in a sequence of steps in which the boom assembly is mounted on a hollow climbing section dimensioned to be received in each of the larger second tower sections and defining a cavity dimensioned to receive each of the first tower sections. One of the latter is secured on a base in upright position, and the upright section is received in the cavity of the climbing section which is then raised relative to the first section and enveloped by one of the second sections. The enveloping section is secured to the base and the raised climbing section for supporting the climbing section whereupon the first tower section may be released from the base, raised, and secured to the second tower section. The climbing section may then be raised relative to the first tower section to permit the installation of another second section, and the procedure repeated, until all second or larger tower sections are superimposed on each other, the one first section being ultimately attached to the topmost second section. When the climbing section is raised relative to the attached first section, another first section may be superimposed on the one first section and the procedure repeated until the slimmer portion of the tower is assembled from superimposed first sections. Ultimately, the boom assembly is attached to the topmost first tower section, and the climbing section may be removed or stored for further use on the wider, lower tower portion.

- I think his greatest contribution was The Red Badge of Courage. It was the most ealistic portrayal of a Civil War soldier written at the time; so real, in fact, that veterans swore the had fought alongside him during battle (Crane wasn't even alive during the war).
