- Seems a little excessive, $900 for laying 70 tiles, even taking away the cost of the plywood, hopefully they'll lay in order to level surface,Or if Concrete, The use of a Self-levelling Compound is a Must ! *Ask if they will use a self-levelling compound to 'seal ' the floor of course, make it a level surface on which to lay the tiles. If corners are cut, (no pun intended) Then there is a good chance of the grout cracking in the not too distant future, and so allowing water to ingress itself under the tile-adhesive and the tile itself, leading to a Very expensive mistake. (Hth). .

- Depends on the exact type of tile. Some porcelain and other hard bodied tile you ll burn the bits and possible the motor itself. If it was a smaller area you had to cut out, it would possible work. Some satillo tiles you could do this with some extra bits , since they are a softer bodied tile. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL

- Is it a pure white? If so your best look will be a white grout. If you have any coloring or haze of color in the tile pick up and match that as best as possible. The use of any other colors in a pure white tile will show as a checker board look on the floor. Maybe not so bad in a real light tone, but any time you go a grey tone it will jump out at you. You asked about type of grout, most likely you ll need a sanded grout and have to use a 1/8 th 3/16 th or a 1/4 inch grout joint.I prefer 3/16th myself and thats what I use on most all my jobs. There are a few (few) porcelains made to go tight together and you ll need a unsanded grout. These you can tell by the tiny beveled edge they ll have .. The color between the products are basically the same: the poor product color difference, the color shades of different; (3) porcelain degree: the color of the tiles, color clear and natural, that porcelain high degree of color is not clear, the porcelain degree is low; 4) color: color patterns to be delicate, realistic, no obvious lack of color, broken, dislocation and other defects;
- Q: I want to install hardwood in all my house, except bathrooms.I currently have ceramic tile flooring. I know removing it and installing solid hardwood will be expensive.Can I install floaring hardwood over the ceramic tile?? I went to Lowe‘s, and the flooring assistant recommended me to to that. - Removing tile isnt all that hard, or expensive. It just takes some muscle. A good sturdy floor scraper willl pop most of the tile and grout loose, once you get a few tiles up. Once you get some space to move your scraper, they will start popping off. The toughest part will be removing the tile adhesive, depending on what was used, but not a major problem. The flooring assistant will be happy to sell you all sorts of pieces to a flooring sytem. You really dont need it. The fewer things you have under your wood floor, the better. The fewer things to go wrong down the road. Wood flooring, being tongue and groove, is hard to remove and replace if you have a problem with whatever is under it.

- yes you can use tiles that have a matte finish. just a matter of preference on the look you want

- yes,but----------------don't you hate that line? the linoleum will only be as solid as the tiles under it. as they come loose in the future your linoleum will end up with loose spots that can bubble up, catch and tear if you slide things across
- Q: ive never tiled anything before. i was thinking of replacing our old tiles around the fireplace and puttnig in slate ones. i am wondering if its a bigger project than it seems. will i have to remove the mantle to do it. is it harder to tile something on the wall or fireplace than the floor? should i just seek a professional or is it easy?thanks
- I don't know about horrible but certainly impractical; unless the fireplace is merely decorative; or an electric one. TILE is usually fired at approx. 2000 degrees; essentially creating glass. It's highly unlikely you'd ever have a fireplace fire get that hot...Hopefully. The issue is more that constant stress on the tile in heating and cooling; and the effect on any mortar you choose. Beyond that is the issue of the tile being hidden most often; and the need to clean it often to be able to view it when no fire is present. Fireplaces are crafted using Brick, that allows no such effects from temp variations, and offers some level of insulation against the heat produced within the confines of the fireplace. Certainly you might consider tiling a hearth; or creating a hearth that you can tile; but it seems a bit defeating to tile into a fireplace. Tile; especially floor type; are created through different heat ranges and substances; to be graded in durability. Assume something like A being the least durable, and D being the most durable. That equates to normal traffic and wear. I'll assume someone will tell you; Sure; there are heat resistant tiles and mortars but I'll go back to my notion of the aesthetics and ask why bother? Due to time constraints we had to get the laminate installed first before the tiles. Our tiler was supposed to put something between the wood the tiles but didn‘t. He‘s not being very cooperative about completing this, so we are trying to do something ourselves.What can we put there, so that the grout stops coming apart where the tiles laminate wood meet?Thanks.
- we had a similar situation where 2 different laminates meet between a bathroom and kitchen... we covered it with a screwed in brass plate... holds the flooring down and looks nice too
