- The crane fly season only last for a month or so. There are years when they can reach almost plague proportions but within another 2-3 years their numbers should return to normal.. They can cause some damage to farm crops but the good news is that they are harmless to us.

- It would work but there's the danger of the load swinging damaging the crane or other vehicles or losing it's centre of gravity toppling etc. when it's moving. For most lifts the outriggers are required to stabilise the crane itself - not the load. You're dead right - the on-site safety protocols that are in place these days demand that everything is done absolutely the right way. If anything goes wrong there's be hell to pay for anyone involved even if they've done their best to get things right.

Artistically perch them on shelves and rim the couches with them and arrange them in circle and diamond patterns on the coffee table. Make the whole room a sea of origami cranes, and then put up a big sign in the middle: CONGRATULATIONS! Or you could make a pi?ata. When whacked, the pi?ata will explode into one thousand origami cranes. Or put them all in a bucket on the rim of a door that is slightly ajar. When they fling it open, the buckets will dump a tremendous shower of paper onto their heads! Attach a bucket to a rope so that the buckets don't clank onto their heads and hurt them.

- Q: I remember it was either an anime/manga or a movie but a boy or girl makes a thousand paper cranes for someone who is dying (possible their mother). I'm pretty sure it's an anime. It's not the story about the little girl with leukemia, I know that. I also remember the little girl/boy putting them on the edge of the bed or something?
