- The 1000 paper cranes thing really only became popular after the 2nd world war- a girl in Japan was told she woudl have a wish granted if she did it in a lifetime. She had been a victim of hiroshima (or nagasaki, i forget), so she gave it a shot but ended up dying young from the illness before she reached her quota. The point is, if it does exist in other cultures, it'll likely only be a surface similarity, I'd imagine. I remember reading in a children's book once that every leaf you catch from a tree in the fall before it touches the ground counts as a day's good luck... but i dont know if that's an actual superstition or one made up for the story. I can't remember the name of it either...
- Q: I'm making 1000 origami paper cranes. I started 2 days ago and have 135 done so far but I was wondering what do to with it after. I don't want to just make them and have them sit in my room forever.
- Well if you don't want to keep them you can look up organizations that wish to use them for a project. There are a lot for Japan, one that was organized recently for the tsunami was accepting cranes for a fundraiser (every crane sent in earned a certain amount of money with the finished collection being placed in an art museum). I know some hospitals accept cranes for the children's ward, that is what my class did in elementary school we made 1000 and the hospital used them as decorations for the Christmas tree. Then there are individual projects that people start online with which they are accepting cranes to fulfill the one thousand mark for people they know who are sick etc. (relates to the story behind the 1000 paper cranes practice). As a side note if you contact the organization you find a lot of the time the shipping is prepaid you just have to drop them off at the post office. Hope this helps.

- Q: I know they will leave because last year they left after a few weeks. I have seen that they normally leave after a month. They annoy me and I want them gone. They have been around since the end of February or beginning of March. Does anyone else have these in their house. It seems like they are leaving slowly usually there is like 1 or 2 a day in moms room but the last 2 days there have not been any. - Chinchilla. They have powerful teeth, dense fur (for armor) and they are very fast. A whooping crane has very fragile bones, and when birds are cut they tend to bleed uncontrolably. They crane could simply fly away if it was uninjured, but by running away it means the chinchilla has won.

- Depends on the type - if the building is not that tall, the tower crane could be built by any taller crane (either a mobile one or an existing one on the site). If the building is very tall, a self-erecting crane is usually used; this type has a sort of jack mechanism somewhere in the tower (usually near the bottom), so as it is needed, the existing tower can be lifted, and another tower section is inserted to raise the entire structure, repeating the process as needed as the structure the crane is building gets taller (thus, the crane is building itself as it goes along).
