- Q: what does a #12 copper wire look like and waht does a #14 wire look like if you got pictures post a link thanks
- actually a few years ago they color coded the casings of the wiring so that the 12 gauge is yellow and the 14 gauge is white. The difference is the size of the wire. Bigger the number the smaller the wire and the less of a load in should carry
- Q: What are the advantages of electric tape over electric wire for a horse?Thank you!!
- Tape is easier to see. Tape is easier to handle, put up and take down. Tape is easier to repair. Tape does not rust. Yup, tape is better.
- Q: The resistivity of a 18.0 m long wire is 3.76E-8 Ω.m and its cross sectional area is 6.52E-6 m2. If the wire carries a current of 1.44 A, what is the voltage across the wire?
- R = ( rho x l)/A Where: R is the resistance, rho the resistivity, l the length and A the area Resiatance of wire = (3.76 x 10^-8 x 18)/6.52 x 10^-6 R = 0.1038 Ohms Voltage across wire = current through wire x resistance of wire V = I x R V = 1.44 x 0.1038 V = 0.14947 V = 0.15 Volts
- Q: coil wiring diagram
- The two small wires are positive and negative. Most are color coded and if it's a OEM part, the negative will be the same color as the group of smaller wires connected to the negative battery cable. Each manufacturer uses different color codes and for instance, Kawasaki uses black with yellow stripe. The other wire will go to the positive side. If the coil doesn't have wire coming out if it, it may have a + or - sign by the terminals. In actuality, it doesn't really matter which way you hook it up because a coil doesn't really care which way the electricity travels. It's the collapsing magnetic field that creates the spark and not the direction or movement of electricity.
- Q: On the wires leading to existing system I can see the main power lead. However all the other wires are different in color leading to existing valves. From the wire bundle two black wires (the only black wires) lead out to nothing and were left with no electrical end caps protecting. Manual says nothing on wiring valves. Any ideas on black wires? Or how can I splice in to existing system wires at valve point having one valve working at a time when system is operating? Am I going to have to get a new controler or run new wires existing controler?
- As long as you have an extra colored wire and your controller will support the extra valve, it will work. I am wondering why you have 2 black ones though, unless one of them has a stripe. Normally multi-strand wire has only one of each color. To see a wiring diagram, follow the link below
- Q: A wire has resistance 56.8 ohms. If another wire consists of the same material but has twice the length and half the diameter of the first, what is the resistance of the 2nd wire?
- The resistance of a wire is given by R = rho*L/A, L is length, A is cross-sectional area, and rho is resistivity, which is dependent on material. It will be constant here as we are dealing with the same material. Let's say that the radius of the first wire is r1. R1 = rho*L1/A1 = rho*L1/(pi*r1^2) rho = R1*A1/L1 = R1*pi*r1^2/L1 For the second wire, R2 = rho*L2/A2 = L2/(pi*r2^2) * R1*Pi*r1^2/L1 L2 is twice L1, L2=2*L1. The diameter is half the first, which means that the radius of half the first, so r2 = r1/2. R2 = 2*L1/(pi*(r1/2)^2) * R1*pi*r1^2/L1 = 8*R1 = 454 ohms.
- Q: I bought a bathroom vent fan today, the one that was in there hasnt worked since we bought the house. Anyways, i have a black wire, and a white wire coming from the light switch on the wall ran up to the ceiling where the fan is, and a black, white, and GREEN comin off the new fan i bought. Do i need to get in the attic and run a ground wire from outlet to fan? Or are the black and white good enough? The old fan didnt have a ground wire, just the other 2. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks
- Green wire should be screwed into the inside of the receptacle box or pigtailed to the bare copper wire in the back of the box. If neither a bare wire or a green screw is present, call an electrician to run proper wiring to the box
- Q: don't say red because there is no red wire in the 3 wire radio assembly that came stock. there is a yellow wire, black with stripe, and gray with stripe

- Q: We are replacing an older style submersible 3 wire well pump with a newer style 3 wire plus ground. I do not know where to ground the green wire? Is it necessary to extend the wire from the pump all the way to the top and ground it there or can i just ground it to the pump itself? Any ideas? First time home owner... trying to save money and not call an electrician (Im an avionics technician so I have some what of an idea what im doing.) Thanks
- All wires coming from the pump should terminated in the Pressure Switch box. Take the green wire from the pump and the ground wire from the house, connect them together with a pigtail wire and attach the pigtail wire to the ground screw within the Pressure Switch box.
- Q: do i need a wiring harness or can i use wire crimps and do it w.o on a 2000 blazer 4wd if u think i need it plz tell me thanks
- You should always use a wiring harness to install a stereo in a vehicle. Cutting the wires and attempting to hand wire is almost always a bad idea. The wiring harness is pretty cheap ($10-$20) and simplifies the whole procedure. Most of the time, the wiring harness and the head unit have similar colored wiring to aid in quick connections. Also, and more importantly, you can reverse the installation. The plugs will still be there and no cutting and rewiring at all. Remember, the head unit costs $150-$250 bucks, why would you cut corners on the installation kit?
