- Q: When wiring my subs from a positive to negative coil, do I use positive or negative speaker wire?
- Speaker wire is speaker wire. There's no difference between positive and negative wire except the markings on the jacket. If you're talking about the bridge wire when wiring a dual voice coil subwoofer in series, just use any piece of wire that's the same gauge as the wires between the other subwoofer terminals and the box terminals.
- Q: who knows the use of wire mesh? Actually where does the wire mesh be used?
- and the size of the wire makes a difference too.you can patch walls with it as well , sift dirt or make a paper machea ball
- Q: why do we use copper wires as connecting wires
- we also use aluminum, though it is less conductive and tends to expand a lot more with heat. It is much lighter and cheaper. Copper has lower thermal expansion, and the highest conductivity of simple elements. (With exception for helium at very low temperature) Sometimes precious metals like gold, platinum, palladium, tungsten... and also carbon, cobalt, nickel, cadmium... all of these elements can be fused together with copper or aluminum to create a variety of properties. The biggest problem with electrical transmission is loss due to inherent resistance in the conductor. Copper is the best for very long distance transmission.
- Q: just need a little help to make right.just wiring an outlet from building to breaker box outside.. which way is the right way to wire it to a breaker then the box. Got the right breaker. Thanks
- Electricity is too dangerous to be playing with if you don't know what you are doing. This is such a basic issue that it makes it obvious that you would be putting yourself and others in danger by you doing it. Based on the wording, I don't think you are even using the correct terminology. There is way more to learn to safely do this than can be said here. Get a professional to do this. Among other things, if you do it wrong, there is a risk of the building catching on fire. That is in addition to the electrocution risk to you while doing the work and for other people after the work is done.
- Q: thats how my after market stereo is hooked up..i just got a system and was wondering if i join the remote wire to the accessory would it be ok? even if the accessory is already joined with the illumination
- You need to first disconnect the accesory wire on the aftermarket radio from the illumination wire from the car harness if you are using hose connection to turn on the radio. You need to connect the accesory wire from the aftermarket radio to the accesory wire from the car radio harness, if you are using a wire harness then it would be the red wire and if the factory radio harness is cut then u'll need a test light to locate the accesory wire. On the aftermarket radio harness/plug locate the blue/white wire that's where u will need to connect the remote wire to, in order to turn your amp on and off. Don't connect the remote wire to the illumination wire from the car, or the radio harness.
- Q: Quick question with hopefully an easy answer. I had a dimmer switch go bad on a light in a dining room. I bought a new switch and put it in. It was working fine, so I thought, then I noticed that when the dining room light is off, the dimmer works on everything else on the circuit, for example outside lights, hall lights, etc. I can dim all of those things when this switch certainly didn't do that before. Also, if the dining room light is on, all of the other things on the circuit I mentioned before do not work at all. I've obviously incorrectly wired the switch somehow, any thoughts on what I did incorrectly and how to fix?
- I read this right after you posted it and for the life of me, can't figure this out. Maybe I'm tired. Maybe its the couple of drinks I have had tonight. Either way, it isn't making sense to me. However, I will tell you how to solve it. First of all, get a cheap muliti-tester. Check the voltage across a white and a black (the black could be a red or another color; any color except green, that's a ground) until you get a reading between 110-125V AC. Those are your power leads. Connect ALL the white leads together and cap them using a wire nut. Next, carefully grab the INSULATED part of the hot black lead and touch them in turn to the others. (There will be a small spark, but as long as you are only touching insulation, you will not get shocked. If you are nervous about this, use two pairs of insulated handle needle-nose pliers to grab the wires, but still, only grab the insulated part.) One should turn on the light in the DR and the other(s) should turn on the power elsewhere. Make a note of what is what. At that point, the wiring becomes simple. Attach the black hot lead to one of the lugs (or wires if that is what it has) of the dimmer switch AND to the black lead(s) that power other fixtures elsewhere. The black lead that you touched to the hot lead that turned on the DR light gets attached to the other side of the dimmer. That should solve your problem. Good luck. If you need additional help, email me.
- Q: running wire to a pool motor, it is 1.5 hp, they pulled 10 guage wire and the breaker keeps tripping , do I need heavier wire?
- Depending on the distance, heavier wire might help. It's possible that there is too much voltage drop in the wire during motor starting. That would lead to heavy startup currents being drawn for longer periods. The pump manufacturer should have wire size / distance recommendations. Voltage and current measurements at the pump during startup with min/max peak holding meters should reveal the problem. Don
- Q: plz answer correctly as soon as possible......why we use stranded 500kV wire?
- After AWG 12 or 14, all cable is stranded. The only purpose of stranded wire is to give it flexibility, regardless of voltage or current. .
- Q: the quot;rite-tempthermostat was ripped from the wall, and the brown wire, and red wires - both not labled are disconnected...where do they connect? please help....rite-temp thermostat model 8050c
- The Green wire generally is fan The red wires are hot to the AC and Heater The yellow wire is AC The white wire is common. Brown may be used for AC instead of red Hook the Green to the G terminal The Red wire to the Rh terminal The brown wire, I believe is Rc terminal White to W OR c (HOW EVER IT'S LABELED) Yellow to Y
- Q: I noticed when looking at the wiring sticking out of the end of one of my laptop power cables (the end that enters the battery), that of the green, grey and pink cables there, the green one had snapped. However, my laptop power still works fine, so what does that green wire do exactly?? Is it dangerous to use it even with that wire snapped?
- Power requires two wires, but a third wire called a ground wire is sometimes added. Usually the plug that goes into the wall has two or three prongs. If it has two prongs, no ground wire added. If it has three prongs, the ground wire is added. The ground is usually used when metal frames or cases are used. The purpose is to ground or short out the live (hot) wire should it accidentally come into contact with the metal frame, causing the circuit breaker to trip. If the ground wire was not there, it would allow a person to get shocked should they touch the metal frame.
