- Q: Hi, I might be installing a floating floor that uses plastic connectors to join each plank. They lock together great, however I can still feel the separation between each plank. Can I add clear lacquer to the floor after it is completely installed to give it a uniform feel?
- You shouldn't. The factory finish is done under quality controlled eviroment. Any finish you put on will not last as long. If it is installed right, the joints are barely noticable.
- Q: Prove that the floor(2x)=floor(x)+floor(x+1/2)i need the proof with cases.
- Suppose that we split up x into its integer part y and its decimal part z (for example, we can split 3.6 up into 3 and 0.6). Then, we have: x = y + z. Then: floor(2x) = floor(2y + 2z), floor(x) = floor(y + z), and floor(x + 1/2) = floor(y + z + 1/2). For 0 < z < 1, floor(y + z) = y for all integers y (y is defined to be an integer, so this is fine). As for floor(2y + 2z) and floor(y + z + 1/2), we need to take cases. Now, if 0 < z < 0.5, then 0 < 2z < 1 and 0 < z + 1/2 < 1 and so: 2y < 2y + 2z < 2y + 1 and y < y + z + 1/2 < y + 1, which implies that 2x is some number between 2y and 2y + 1 and that x + 1/2 is some number between y and y + 1, which implies: floor(2x) = x and floor(x + 1/2) = x, so floor(2x) = floor(x) + floor(x + 1/2) when x is some integer plus a decimal between 0 and 0.5. As for the case 0.5 < z < 1, 1 < 2z < 2 and 1 < z + 1/2 < 1.5, so: 2y + 1 < 2y + 2z < 2y + 2 and y + 1 < y + z + 1/2 < y + 1.5, yielding floor(2y + 2z) = 2y + 1, floor(y + z + 1/2) = y + 1, and floor(y + z) = y, and so: floor(2y + 2z) = floor(y + z + 1/2) + floor(y + z) == floor(2x) = floor(x) + floor(x + 1/2). Combining these two cases proves floor(2x) = floor(x) + floor(x + 1/2) when x is not an integer. To prove the case when x is an integer, notice that: floor(2x) = 2x, floor(x) = x, and floor(x + 1/2) = x, when x is an integer, which shows that floor(2x) = floor(x) + floor(x + 1/2) when x is an integer. Combining these three cases yields floor(2x) = floor(x) + floor(x + 1/2) for all x (as required). I hope this helps!
- Q: I want to remove the laminate flooring and put tile in what tools do I need to use and how do you get the glue off
- something to scrape the floor is about all you will need. the glue, well, scrape, scrape and then scrape some more. sanding will also work. whats under the laminate? If it is anything other than cement then you are going to have to lay cement board and if that is the case then you don't necessarily have to scrape the glue perfectly flat. you can also go to your local home depot and buy something that will soften the glue up. good luck
- Q: I have a hardwood kitchen floor.
- My sister has hardwood floors and swears by her shark steam mop. After a regular mopping, you can wipe the floor with a damp paper towel and it still comes up gray. But after steam mopping, you won't find any traces of dirt. I wish I had heard of it back when I had hardwood floors....
- Q: hotels skip 13th floor...some skip the fourth but most skip the 13th....i know....i just watch the movie 1408 and then i saw that they skipped a floor....i never knew it until i watched the movie..i am just so curious.....and i also noticed...they really skipped a floor
- Some people are just very superstitious and stupid thats all alot of buildings do that
- Q: I have laminated flooring throughout my whole house . I would like to clean it without loosing the shine.
- If the laminate is sealed, clean it as normal with a damp mop. If it is not sealed then clean it with wet wipes or similarly purpose laminate wipes. In the mean time, drop one or two drops (not any more though as it can become slippery) of baby oil directly onto the cloth or in the bucket of water if you are using a damp clean mopl. Baby oil gives an excellent sheen to most hard flooring including laminate.
- Q: My church recently had our concrete floors stained and then sealed with 2 coats of urethane..I have tried cleaning and buffing with a neutral PH floor cleaner which left a film on the floor. I have a couple questions since I am in charge of caring for the floor1. How do I keep the floor clean and shiney without leaving water marks or soap film on the floor?2.How do I buff and shine the floor?3.How do I remove the scratches and scuff marks from the floor?
- Concrete Buffing
- Q: Need to find other cleaner than pergo's brand cleaner that is unavailable to get floors clean and not leave foot prints behind after washed . also the stickiness always left behind
- you have the same problem i do i thought it looked great but having constant traffic and dogs uuuugggghhh.I was told to wash with a soulution of vinegar and water and use a microfiber pad I use the swiffer with a dry pad and spray with a spray bottle with like fabulouso mixed with water and i use a fan it drys nice.Whatever you do i used a steamer on the floor big mistake it must have been to hot because I think i shrunk the panels because they are all comming up. you can see the seams. I had linolium underneath i wish i left it the way it was.My daughter has it downstairs its beautiful she has an area carpet over most of it but it looks great compared to mine.
- Q: Im looking for a old floor tile . That they use back in the 70s and 80s. It call k36 parquet flooring. I use it to patch flooring with out changing the hole floor. It is called k36 9x9 Tung& Grove floor tile. Do you where i can get some.
- Try checking on TV programs like This Old House, and places like Habitat Restore Call your local Habitat for Humanity , if you don't find their restore in your phone book. Look in old DIY magazines for place that sold the flooring at the time. They may still be in operation and sell what you are looking for. Short of that, a master carpenter should be able to make you some repacement pieces. My Dad was a master carpenter....thats how I know IT CAN BE DONE !!! Just be sure you get one who knows what he is doing...there are some carpenters that aren't worth the sawdust in their clothing or ears. Check with a local reputable carpenter shop, they may have a carpenter willing to work on the side to help you out. I would recomend my Dad but he is now with The Master Carpenter and has been for many years now. Parquet flooring is beautiful flooring. But if all else fails; buy the thin parquet flooring to match and fill in with some plywood as back filler. Depending on the thickness of the original flooring, you can use several thin layers of plywood or one thickness plus a thin to get the right thickness. Example: 3/8 ths + 1/4 th, 5/8ths +1/4th, or several of the 1/4 th inch plywood. You may have to sand it down a tad depending.... Hope this helps you out...I tried to think of as many places as I could. Oh, try salvage stores...sometimes they are are almost as good as the Habitat Restores. :-)
- Q: want to build an apartment downstairs without noise coming thru floor
- You can best do this by isolating the floor from the ceiling by adding a new set of ceiling joists and have the apartment ceiling structurally separate from the floor. The ceiling joists would go up between the floor joists with the bottoms about an inch below the existing floor joists. Dampen the space between the joists with fiberglass batt insulation and also use a good dense sound board on the bottom of the new ceiling joists. The gypsum board ceiling can be screwed through the sound board into the new joists. This may not be the cheapest way but it is pretty effective way of reducing sound transmission through a floor/ceiling.
