Q:I have a 1994 convertible with a plastic rear window, and it has 13 years of dirtiness on that thing. There is a bunch of ugly what I presume are scratches all across teh middle (probably from the folding process).Also, there are little almost transparent white circles (you have to see them from an angle though)... that are also really annoying.Can you identify what those circles are??I've tried meguire's plastx polish...and even some white vinegar distilled in water.Currently, im looking for a more aggressive product.: I agree with John Paul. Q:will any type of plastic work for insulating windows?: I would suggest the type that are like storm windows. They are double layers and create dead air spaces that stop the heat flow -- not much of an R value, but better than thin plastic sheeting. R= 1 (for the really cold days, the best insulation for windows is to cut a 1 inch thick foil faced styrofoam sheet - cut it to size so that it pressure fits inside your window framing. = R = 6.5

Q:I have yucky shades on my windows dead bugs all around my windows. They are old windows so I bought an insulation kit to do the windows. It says I will need to blow dry.What if I don't want to touch the disgusting shades my landlord said be would replace when I moved in ? There are slice webs around my window so I am disgusted.: Actually you can go with this approach, but you must ask an expert before applying anything. Your windows will look great, and they will be highly protective after applying plastic on them. But be careful and do it properly.

Q:Looking for an actual number, not a quot;go call the builderquot; response. I already did that. Still looking for an actual savings amount though. Anybody do this and can give an example of energy savings?: How leaky are your windows? How many panes? Is there insulation around your windows? Are they caulked properly? What is the normal temperature outside? This is not something anyone can throw a number at you that makes any sense. There are to many contributing factors to come up with a savings number. Suffice to say if there is cold radiating in from the window - or heat in the summer your bill can only benefit from sealing them. The heat shrink plastic adds another thermal layer. It's like putting on a sweater under your coat if it's really cold. I live in Winnipeg Canada. In the dead of winter -40F is not uncommon. In this old house most of our windows are triple pane. The ones that are not actually get a layer of ice on the inside. We plastic those and plan to replace them.

Q:Can anyone help with a cleaning agent that i could use on the windows to bring them up good, and what should i use on the outside to clean it also: My guess would be vinegar and water.No glass cleaner.

Just curious.: technically you should remove them before you put them in the recycling but i suppose there must be a load of people who have to sort through it all and remove them all by hand as you can't recycle paper and plastic together
