- I don't think you are going to get something that will get them clean you can try brasso use a soft backing so you dont scratch the back
- Q: I saw an online video that we can go to our local home depot etc and buy kits where we use a blow drying and put plastic on the inside of our windows. How much does this really help in saving on energy costs for those of you who know this kind of stuff. I am on a very limited budget, so I am looking at those,
- Short answer... Have used them they make a difference. They do cut down on drafts can make living space more comfortable. A cheap, temporary fix for drafty windows. Best regards
- Q: I rent a townhouse that has very old windows.. LL will not replace them so im thinking of puttng plastic over the wndows.. we are not aloud to put plastic outside.,. Can anyone tell me..should it be thick plastic? should i staple it? or just tape? when i lay on my bed or couch i can feel the draft and the curtans move.. these wndows are terrible!! any help on the whole insulating thing would be great.. i hate having my heat on 78 just to be somewhat warm cause all the cold ar is still blowng in.. for some reason the heating vents are close to the wndows.. defeats the purpose if you ask me..
- go to a hardware strore and look for plastic that is specially made for covering windows. it has a double sided tape that attaches to the inside of the window and put the plastic up take a hair dryer and it's like a shrink wrap to make a tight seal. we did that over the weekend and WOW what a difference. i also live in a house (old) with horrible windows that let the cold right in. really made a difference in here....we are able to keep the thermostat set at 65 and its comfortable in here.
- Q: and where can i get it? I remember my dad did this to our windows growing up and it was like shrink wrap for them and he had to use a hairdryer....any ideas where i can get it and does it work?
- Frost KIng and 3M make these window film treatments that you are talking about...You can buy either one at a home depot/Lowes/Menards /Ace Hardware or True Value. YOu are correct ...Use a home hair dryer after apllying the film to a clean perimeter of the insde window and it will shrink to a drum tight and air tight enclsoure. Come spring time you simply need to peel it off and you are back to the summer mode...HOwever you will have to re purchase again for next winter..But for the price you get a lot of value...The 3M is by far the superior product due to the adhesives used on the border and the mil thickness of the palstic...Of o =course you pay more as well ..
- Q: I have a Renault Clio authentique 1.2L and it has electric windows....there is a plastic clip attached to the back of the glass that i presume keeps the glass coming up and down at the right angle but it comes up really slowly and some times not at all....i think it has something to do either with the plastic clip or it needs more lubrication.....any help is appreciated. - Q: So I have a 88 celica convertible and the back window is made out of plastic can not see anything out of it. I replaced it a few years back havent driven it in a while now you cant see out of it. Is there something out there I can use to clear it up?
- There are products available for exactly your problem. Search an auto parts retail website. It serves to clean and protect the plastic, and the result is usually decent.

- Do you mean like the ones where you pull them down and they unroll, and then to open them back up you pull down slightly and push them back up? I have those and I got them at the Home Depot. You can special order them in whatever size you want. And, they're fairly inexpensive. I have them on two picture windows with a southwest exposure, one about 6 feet long and the other about 7 feet long. I also have 2-inch horizontal mini blinds on those windows. But, the blinds are so long and heavy that they don't completely close all the way. So, I had to install the roll-up blinds behind them. And, they work great.
- Q: Will covering the windows with thick painters plastic drastically help the window A/C unit cool the house down?Also, should i insulate the floor?
- Make sure the windows are closed (sometimes they slip from the top - be sure to check that). Using solar film will help but it is rough to work with, replace the screens with solar screening as it is easier and does help quite a bit. Insulating the floor will do very little, extra insulation in the attic is the way to go. Be sure to replace the AC filter as that could be clogged with dust. On very sunny days close the blinds or shades to help prevent heat build-up.
