Q: I bought a steel pendant on eBay, but it turned out to be too shiny.I've read on a couple forums that if I leave it soaked in urine for 2 days, it will get duller. Now, if it really does get duller, will the pendant get rusty afterwards? So is the shiny surface the only thing that prevents it from rusting?Any simple, non-urine ideas on how to make it duller are welcome too. Thanks!
Stainless steel will rust under proper conditions. I live on a boat on salt water, trust me. If the urine works it won't be prone to rusting any more than before. It's not the shine that inhibits rusting with stainless steel, it the % of carbon in the steel, compared to regular steel. IF the urine works it's because it is acidic (a mild acid). Wash it with a small brush and some baking soda to neutralize the acid when your done. A much stronger acid would be swimming pool acid. (Muriatic acid) but be careful you might test a spot with a Q tip on the back. If you try Muriatic acid it would take seconds. Then wash in baking soda water to remove all acid.. SS
Q: My boyfriend is a loyal follower of this guy called Dr. Steel.
Dr. Steel is an extremely complex phenomenon, a bit of a metaphorical nesting doll. On the surface, Dr. Steel can appear to some as simply a method actor musician with an over-the-top gimmick. Just underneath that facade lies an enigma; he makes some people wonder if he's really serious, just trying to entertain, or completely barking mad. But underneath the second facade, Dr. Steel is really acclaimed comic-book writer and chaos magickian, Grant Morrison. Make no mistake, he really thinks he is Dr. Steel. He has taken method acting and ceremonial magick to the highest levels, and fully intends to take over (or make over) the world. What's more, in the three short years since handing over his comic-book authorship to a ghost writer, he has amassed tens of thousands of followers worldwide. I've done several polls among Dr. Steel fans, and the results show that for every one person who has officially signed up, there are ten more loyal followers who have not.
Q: What is the role of steel coils in the manufacturing of appliances?
Steel coils play a crucial role in the manufacturing of appliances as they serve as the primary material for constructing the appliance's body and various components. The coils are processed, shaped, and transformed into different parts, such as the outer casing, inner structures, and internal components, providing strength, durability, and stability to the appliances. Additionally, the steel coils can be easily customized to meet specific design requirements, ensuring the appliances are efficient, reliable, and capable of withstanding the demands of daily use.
Q: What is the average shelf life of a painted steel coil?
The average shelf life of a painted steel coil can vary depending on various factors such as the quality of paint used, environmental conditions, and storage practices. However, under normal conditions, the average shelf life of a painted steel coil is typically around 1 to 2 years.
Q: Is steel case ammo going to mess the gun up or is it just going to wear the parts out faster and if so how much faster? (I am not planning on reloading the rounds)
True, brass ammo is hard to find. Your only real options in brass is Remington, Winchester, American Eagle, UMC, PMC, Fiocchi, and a sometimes a few various imports. Most of these can be difficult to find in large quantites and are costly. There was surplus from South Africa, Yugoslavia, Egypt and possibly Iran that was brass but almost all of it is difficult to find. The AK was designed around steel cased ammo. I shoot plenty of it through my guns and have little worry about any parts damage or accelerated wear. Other than the option of reloading, brass doesn't offer much that steel can't provide.
Q: I have hundreds of pounds of scrap steel... who purchases this steel and what is the price per pound etc. of this? Does someone pick it up or do I bring it somewhere?
Right now, steel is worth $150/ton. Who purchase it? Well, not every scrap yard handle steel, you have to call them up, or look at the company name that has the word steel or iron. But price can vary from each scrap yard. Try to call around. As for someone to pick it up, the scrap yard will mostly charge you a trucking fee and then the price for steel would be lower. But here is another bad thing if you have it pick up. I know some scrap yard are bad...reall bad..they will skim off some weight...a 1k lbs to 2k lbs. Wish you good luck!
Q: What are the different methods of edge camber correction for steel coils?
There are several methods used for edge camber correction in steel coils, depending on the specific requirements and equipment available. Some of the common methods include: 1. Mechanical Edge Trimming: This method involves trimming the edges of the coil using mechanical tools such as shears or slitters. It helps to remove excess material and correct the camber. This method is often used for smaller coils or when the camber is minimal. 2. Tension Leveling: Tension leveling is a process where the coil is passed through a series of adjustable rollers under tension. The tension helps to elongate the steel and reduce the camber. This method is effective for correcting moderate camber and is commonly used for larger coils. 3. Roller Leveling: Roller leveling is similar to tension leveling, but instead of adjustable rollers, the coil is passed through a series of fixed rollers. These rollers exert pressure on the steel to flatten it and correct the edge camber. This method is often used for thicker and heavier coils. 4. Heat Straightening: Heat straightening involves applying controlled heat to the edges of the coil to soften the steel. Once the steel becomes malleable, external force is applied to straighten the edges. This method is suitable for correcting severe edge camber but requires specialized equipment and expertise. 5. Combination Methods: In some cases, a combination of different methods may be used to achieve the desired edge camber correction. For example, mechanical edge trimming may be followed by tension leveling or roller leveling to further straighten the edges. It is worth mentioning that the choice of method depends on various factors such as the severity of camber, coil dimensions, material properties, and available equipment. It is essential to evaluate these factors and consult with experts to determine the most suitable method for edge camber correction in steel coils.
Q: Can steel coils be used in marine environments?
Yes, steel coils can be used in marine environments, but proper precautions need to be taken to prevent corrosion. Steel is prone to corrosion when exposed to moisture and saltwater, which are common in marine environments. To counteract this, the steel coils can be treated with protective coatings, such as galvanization or painting, to create a barrier between the steel and the corrosive elements. Additionally, regular maintenance and inspections should be performed to identify any signs of corrosion and take appropriate action to prevent further damage. By implementing these measures, steel coils can be effectively used in marine environments while minimizing the risk of corrosion and ensuring their durability and performance.
Q: I was wondering whether anyone knew if painted steels rusts at the same speed as steel that isn't painted. Also, does steel rust quicker than aluminium?Thank you
If the steel is properly prepped when painted, then it would last a long time before any rust or corrosion sets in. This still all depends if the item is subjected to water or salt and if the item you painted is not scratched in any way, once exposed from the paint, the rust will begin rapidly. As far as aluminum, no it will not rust, but you do get aluminum oxidation. It gets a white flakey appearance when it begins to oxidize. Now if you are thinking of painting the rims on a car, i recommend scuffing the rim, priming it, lightly sanding and then paint to the color of choice and for the final touch apply a clear coat on the rims to help avoid the rusting. Use a paint such as rustoleum to prolong the effects of rust settling in. good luck..... good luck.....
Q: What is the average lead time for receiving replacement steel coils?
The average lead time for receiving replacement steel coils can vary depending on various factors such as the supplier, location, and specific requirements. It is recommended to contact the supplier directly for an accurate estimation of the lead time.
