Implant grade titanium is much better than surgical steel. The nickel content in it (which is what alot of people are allergic to) is virtually non-existant. Though most people with a nickel allergy are fine with surgical steel too, its too small for most people to react to. But the odd few people do. Its the same with everything. Good surgical steel is probably better than cheap titanium. But implant grade ti will beat it hands down. And ti is alot stronger, and is also used in surgical impants and as replacement bits too. But a big lump of titanium hip is going to be expensive. If you're not allergic to steel, theres little reason for the extra cost, especially if it's likely to outlive you. Niobium has no nickel in at all. But that really is expensive, and I've never seen any threaded. Any particular reason why you ask? ----- Piercing-wise titanium will be better than steel. Unless they carry some not so great ti. You should be fine with steel though.

Stainless steel is pretty much stainless steel. The differences in tone you can get is when you get stainless steel look appliances. They tend to be a bit more like a charcoal color than true stainless steel color. When I bought my house, it had a stainless steel GE microwave, dishwasher, and stove, and a Braun stainless steel range hood. When we remodeled last year, we got a Maytag Ice20 stainless steel refrigerator and a Kholer stainless steel sink. They all look fine together.

Stainless can oxidize over time but it doesn't look much like regular rust. Depending on the exact composition of the stainless alloy in question and what other materials are in contact with it, that's more or less of an issue. In constant contact with skin oils and gentle polishing from contact with skin and clothing, watches rarely rust regardless of what they're made of, I think you have nothing to worry about. Note: for future reference, bleach is absolute hell on stainless. It's bad enough on steel, worse on stainless. Especially because you have this idea that stainless is more or less impervious, when in reality it just isn't.
