Q: Can I remove a raw plug from a wall without badly damaging the plasterboard?
Best just to punch it in, and plaster over the hole, less damage that way
Q: I don't want it to pull out the wall due to the weight of the tele!Regards
If it has to go into plasterboard, I'd recommend insurance for your TV, it's coming down. If you mean it has to go through plasterboard, then use a stud finder and hang the tv off at least two studs. It'll be fine and make sure to measure twice, you don't want extra holes in your plasterboard.
Q: Lots of water dripped through and there are stains in the plaster swirl ceiling. No visible bubbling or damage though besides the stains. Should I be worried about mold in an interior (no insulation) ceiling? Is it important to cut out the stained plasterboard ceiling?
If you are absolutely certain the leak has been fixed and there is no more water dripping... 1. Place a fan facing toward the ceiling for about a week or as long as it takes to make sure the ceiling is completely dry. 2. Paint the stained area with Killz. (Not sure of the spelling but it's a water stain retardant) Let it dry overnight, regardless of what the directions say telling you it's dry in less than two hours. 3. Paint the surface again with Killz 24 hours later. 4. Wait 24 hours to see if the stain is visible. If it is, paint another coat of Killz. 5. If the stain is undetectable, wait 48 hours and paint the ceiling with with the color of your choice. A second coat of paint may be required.
Q: Gypsum board has no formaldehyde
Gypsum board does not contain formaldehyde, gypsum board production was mainly based on building gypsum. Can be assured that use.
Q: I would like to ask the home of the gypsum board is generally used in general how thick?
Home decoration common gypsum board is gypsum board, the actual thickness of 9mm, but poor quality will be thinner.
Q: can you tile ceramic tiles on plasterboard?
Yes you can. First clean the area with TSP and then a coat of water-based primer.
Q: What brand of gypsum board is good
Domestic brands: Dragon card Joint venture brand: Lafarge, can be resistant
Q: down. The writing on the back says that i cannot plaster on the side that now faces the floor. What can i do. I have fitted recessed spotlights and now need to make good the surface, ie plaster ready for painting. Can i still do so after maybe pva'ing / bonding the surface?
Easiest solution would be to go over the ceiling with 1/4 drywall. That won't affect the depth of the cans too much. However, you will need to use adhesive, such as Liquid Nails, along with the drywall screws to hold the sheet up. The 1/4 will have too much flex to span the distance between the joists. There are also screws you can use to help hold it up. The technical name is laminating drywall screws, but we call them rock-to-rock screws. Good luck.
Q: I have moved into a new house which has an extension, I have found that the extension was not insulated. I wish to cut out some plasterboard, lay the insulation and then replace. Any ideas? There are 4 sunken spotlights in the ceiling which are at least 1 metre apart.
I would recommend going with blown in cellulose insulation. You can drill 2 inch holes in the drywall, blow in the insulation, patch the holes and save a ton of money, time and materials. Cellulose is safe, cheap, easy to do yourself. Drill for walls, use the access door or put one in to do the attic. You may need to protect the areas around the ceiling lights due to heat dangers.
Q: It's a strip light but although I'm putting plugs in, after I drill the holes, as soon as I put the hooks up to hold the light the plugs just keep coming out....any suggestions?
You need to buy special plugs for plasterboard. There are several systems for light, medium and heavy use. They mostly use some type of anchor that spreads out on the otherside of the board. They are quite effective, and really quite clever.
