- Q: Im trying to figure out how to apply (vct) Vinyl tile squares? Whats the best way to start a project? What adhesive do you use if any? Is it like ceramic with some form of grout? etc!
- On VCT, Vinyl Composite Tile, you need adhesive to put it down and it goes together directly next to each other, you do not grout VCT. You also need a heat gun and a VCT cutter when installing. The manufacturer of the VCT also makes the adhesive that is needed for installation. After it is installed it needs have a weight roller rolled over the tile to ensure it sticking to the floor. VCT should also be sealed and waxed after completion to ensure it won't be scratched and that no moisture gets underneath the surface. You can lay out the tiles before the adhesive is applied to see what it looks like and where the cuts will be, you don't need to lay out the whole floor just a little bit. - Q: We have an installer, whom seems to be doing it wrong. I can‘t find any website that explains how to install tile the way he is doing it. Can you tell me if this sounds correct?First he puts mortar on the bare cement floor, then put down versa-bond or a bonding agent.. and then he puts more mortar on the tile and then lays it down.. - Q: What‘s the difference between tile mastic tile adhesive? I was told to paint the wall w/paint primer first then use tile adhesive rather than tile mastic to apply tiles on damaged green board around my jaccuzzi tub for a quick fix. The green paper peeled off when removing the old tile exposing the brown cardboard stuff.

- Q: I just replaced the riser rail in our electric shower, but the fittings were slightly different, so now I have 2 bare holes in the tiles. Should I be concerned about moisture getting into the wall, and if so what‘s the best way to fill these holes? Would polyfilla be enough?

- Q: I don‘t have a ton of money for my kitchen but I feel I can do some minor things. I) Orange countertop MUST go. I am seriously considering due the lack of counter space in the kitchen, what you see is my only countertop space, is move the fridge to the wall on the right, which you cant realy see in this pic, but there is an inside interior wall im going to set the fridge against, and then extend the countertop the wall, and put a base cabinet below it, and one above it to be the same size vertically as the one next to the fridge. A neutral beige-ish countertop, and then probably a range top thing for above the stove. Replace old sink faucet too.My question about making a tile backsplash for above the sink, would ie be more logical to measure it out, and put the tiles on a piece of plywood and screw that 2 the wall instead of grouting the wall and tiles affixed to the wall directly.

- Painted tiles will never look as good as the original finish and will probably not wear well either, since there is white in your countertop, I would just leave the tiles as they are. You could remove some of the tiles and put in accent tiles that match your new color scheme to help pull it all together. The sell the grout knives and cutter you would need at the tile section of your larger hardware stores. Tape the surrounding tiles to avoid scratching when removing one.

First I would get a textured instead of smooth tile because if their feet are wet or something gets spilled, it is a nasty hard fall. Tile is very easy to clean in my opinion and it does look very nice and adds to the equity in your home. I am not sure I would put tile in my entire house because I do have children (10 and almost 5) and I have had 2 situations where the floor was wet and my son went down hard. So my suggestion is to not put tile in the whole house, but choose certain rooms. There are pros to it, but having children myself it can be a nasty fall when it is wet and someone slips on it. If put in the kitchen or bathroom I would go for a textured tile instead of smooth to help prevent those falls.
