- Q: do i remove toilet, vinyl tile and sink cabinet. under lay for tile? what holds ceramic tile down?
- It's easier to tile if you remove everything. I would also recommend using cement board on top of your underlay providing it's in good shape. Tile is held down by a thick paste (actual name escapes me at the moment) which is spread on the floor tiles firmly pushed down while using plastic spacers to keep them all in alignment. Grout is then used to fill those gaps. All of these items can be bought at Lowes or some such place. Also if you use cement board with the tile as well you may want to use 2 wax rings because your commode will set a little higher will help (hopefully!) prevent any leaks.

- Q: Our new kitchen tile floor was grouted last Thursday (almost a week ago). They did a poor job removing grout from the tile surface - very rough ceramic tile. I‘ve washed and scrubbed, it is cemented on. On top of that I don‘t like the grout color.Nothing has been sealed. So I got some acid wash and a grout stain from Home Depot. The stain says the tile should have been sealed prior to using it, I dont understand why that is. So I dont stain the tile? I‘m afraid if I sealed the tile it would seal the grout, so seems like a bad idea.And the acid wash... is this going to ruin the grout itself? How careful do I need to be about not getting in on the grout? Unfortunately its a large area, kitchen and dining area. 12‘ x 30‘. I‘ll be scrubbing a long time.Any suggestions to make this easier?Thanks!

- Q: i‘m thinking about laying my own tile. ( this way i could save $2700) yeah, i know its a pain int he butt. BUT i‘m still going to do it because i like doing my own work. - Pic tile first. Some offer bull nose for edge some don't. Figure out design, edges, corners, splash gard, sq. ft. etc. before purchase. Buy 10% extra for cutting waste. Pic a tile separator width and grout to match tile. Be sure to use a tile trowel it will hell in thickness of quickset when placing tiles. GL

I‘ve called everywhere( in Kansas and Missouri). So far I haven‘t had any luck. where can I find the ceramic tile color Yosemite Sand 13 inch square. I need atleast 5 of them. Thank You..

- Q: My wall tiles has been for more than 20yrs owned by first owner. Due to limited budget,i have not replaced them when i bought over as 2nd owner, but have done a coat of spray paint on it thru contractor, Now after 5 yrs, some of these spray paint are coming off, any suggestion what i can do , i do not want to hack the wall and replace new wall tiles very costly, someone suggest buying bathroom tiles stickers on those tiles with paint coming off.. anyone with better suggestion on DIY ..plse help---
- Hmm....clean remove as much of the paint as possible. Let it dry and use waterproofed plastic laminates...there are even tile pattern laminate.. like 3M type or refer below. Your toilet will looks as new.
- Q: currently have vinyl tile glued to concrete on grade. Want to install bamboo floor / engineered wood. Can we go on top of existing vinyl?
- If the vinyl tile thats down now is well bonded, not coming up at all and the floor is flat.There are ways to do it. Most certainly you can do a floating floor system. Glue direct can also be down if certain precautions are done ,like roughing up the vinyl,cleaning it well and the use or the proper glue to bond to vinyl.
