Q:how do i do the measuring and lay out on a 10 foot by 6 foot floor when laying the tiles diagonally?: Find the largest open square in your floor. Strike a cross from corner to corner of this square to get a center point. You can lay out some tiles based on this center point to see how it ends up running toward the door opening (also a significant sight line) and the walls. You don't want slivers of tile cuts at the walls or door opening so you want to manage the center point around these areas. Allowing for larger grout joints can help you with this issue as well though larger grout joints just make for more sanitary issues in a bath floor.

For the rest, it is probably a good idea to use the greenboard to resist the moisture. And actually, if you get a brand name faucet for your shower, you shouldn't ever have to break out the tile. Most of the bigger name faucet companies have it so the guts of the faucet valve can be pulled out without ever getting into the wall. Then since the back portion is pretty much generic for most of their faucet you should have a variety of new faucet styles that will fit over that valve. You just need to get the kit for the style you like. Just go to a store that specializes in plumbing or bathrooms.

If you want to use tiles, you could use slate tiles since they help retain heat, are easy to clean due to their smooth surface, and help file their nails. You could definitely use patio tiles just make sure to always keep your light on during the day and just in case, don't let it get cold during the night. Use a ceramic heat emitter during the night or you could use an under the tank heat pad to make sure. But other than that, it's perfect because it's just as good as slate tile. If you want other alternatives just in case you use calcium based sand if you really want. Repti carpet, paper towels, newspaper. Don't use indoor/ outdoor carpets though because they have little micro fibers that can coil around their toes and cut the circulation and eventually make their toes fall off.
