Q: I will be putting matching ceramic tile as molding....what is the best way to attach the ceramic molding to the wall?: Thin set will hold it to a sealed ( painted of primered wall) but it will slip and slide down the wall.If your not stacking it on other tile or it is a heavier type pc ( like a chair rail molding) Mastic , the pre mixed glue is a better way to adhere it with the proper amount of glue.Most all tiles will stay on with out support and dry to the point it will tear off dry wall when removed. Mastic can not be used in a wet area such as in a shower/tub. Can be used outside on the wall. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL

Q: I don‘t want to take my tiles off my bathroom walls, but i would like to put some mosaic tiles up, can i put them on top of existing tiles: Yes you can.Left over or broken tiles can be used to make unique and beautiful mosaic designs rather than just getting thrown away.

Q: I have a commercial pool thats about 100 years old ( with modern modifications). The ceramic tiles on the floor area are original. We have been begged by just about everyone not to replace them. It looks soo dirty. Our comepetition is more expensive.....water quality is horrible....and their pools are packed all day. Im lucky to get 5 people in an 18 hour day. The water and inside the pool look nice.....just getting to the pool...people think they will get a disease. Its just old age stain....not sure what that is exactly.: I okorder /... Re-sealing the tiles is not a permanent solution. Another alternative is to find matching tiles, and remove a strip wide enough for a walkway, and re-tile with the new, modern tiles. Sometimes old meets new can look terrific.

Q: The tile in my shower floor got torn apart: Without more detail; I have to ask your definition of Torn Apart. I'll assume you mean separated from the substrate? Certainly it would help to know WHY? It would also help to know what the substance of the substrate is; the method of tile install; type of mortar (mastic) and the general condition of any tile that remains in place. Do you have extra tile? Do you have tools such as a Diag. Grinder; you might use to remove old mortar and grout for the substrate and back of each tile piece? I'm remediating 11,000 sq. ft. of tile now; installed improperly in a commercial building basement that floods. Tedious work; but do-able. Steven Wolf

Q: Not sure it it‘s mold/mildew ot the sealer stripping off. I‘ve used Tilex but it didn‘t work. Even scrubbed it with a stiff brush. Anyone know what this film is and how to get it off?: Are these tiles applied directly to a concrete floor that sits on the ground? If so, it sounds like efflorescence, where salt moves from the ground into the floor and then through the tile appearing as a white film on the surface of the tile (it happens through basement walls and if bricks are placed on the ground). Scrubbing may not be enough. You may have to check at your local hardware store for a sealer for your tiles or a cleaner strong enough to prevent the film from forming again.

Q: I want to lay tile in my mobile home, and I want a cheaper alternative to wonderboard for the tile that I want to install. My home is on a concrete foundation tied down and the flooring is solid I‘m just concerned with the tile not sticking to the osb plywood. Any serious answers would be appreciated: Tile will stick to plywood just fine. People use wonderboard for a couple of reasons. First, if the surface can get wet (like a bathroom floor or a shower wall), the wonderboard will not get damaged by water that might seep between cracks in the grout. Second, wonderboard is less flexible than wood for a given thickness. For a wood subfloor, any flexing can lead to cracking of the grout and/or the tiles. If the wood is thick enough (1/2 to 3/4 inches) and firmly secured to the subfloor with lots of screws, it shouldn't flex to the point where the tile or grout is damaged. If it does crack later on, you can always regrout the damaged areas.

Q: IAM REDOING MY KITCHEN FLOOR. IS PEEL STICK TILE GOOD FOR THE PROJECT N WILL IT LAST? THANKS: For most things, in general, you get what you pay for. If you buy the peel and stick tile because it is cheap, then you will have a cheap job. It never sticks as good as the manufacturer says it does. It shows ALL imperfections in the underlying floor surface. You will get goop in the areas between tiles, no matter how well you lay it. It really isn't worth it at all. I did a bathroom and kitchen area in an old house using peel stick tile, and it looked good for about a month, then it turned to crap quickly. I'd suggest either using ceramic tile or a single sheet of linoleum flooring. Good luck.
