Q: I have a small bathroom (toilet only) that has carpet that smells and I want to replace it with 12 X 12 inch tiles. Is there a type of tile that will make the installation simple (avoid grout) and is easy to cut and easy to installHigher quality but simple installation is desired.: Sorry , like T J said all tile needs grout. Dirt and debris will collect down in the groves if you dont.. Have you thought of a good laminate that has the tile look? Just need a skil saw or table saw (best ) to cut them. they can.Since it classified as a non wet area laminates will work fine in a 1/2 bath.. Less work putting them in too. Q: should i put tile in my kitchen if im gonna put wood floors in rest of my house ? or should i put the wood floors all through out ?? does it look ok with tile and wood transition ??: I don't know why people are posting tile. I believe hardwood floors are classier/ nicer/ easier to decorate/ easier to clean. Just think of the fact that the grout lines between the tiles will get absolutely nasty after a year, specially in highly transited areas such as kitchens bathrooms.

What product should I use? Any information will be appreacated.: Yes your tiles are wearing out. Most cheap tile last 8 to 10 years. The best bet will be a better ceramic tile or porcelain tile. Be sure to take up the old before you start. Do not leave the old down. To keep using your old tile you can get vinyl type wax and wax the tile. Get the old tile as clean as you can before applying the wax

Q: Recently, my carpet got a bit singed in front of the fireplace. so, I decided to place tile in front of the fireplace. I plan to remove the carpet and the padding. what will be left is the plywood and 2x4‘s. not exactly sure if there is anything under the plywood since this was an addition and is on top of the garage, where the garage is not underground but has cinderblock walls. when my son jumps around, it kinda shakes the floor.what I need to know is if cement board has to be used. can I just place tile over plywood with the appropriate adhesive? remove plywood all together? what is the simplest method for a single momma with low funds who is not familiar with laying tile? my second inquiry is about finishing it off. I can do the grout easy enough, but what about where the tile meets the carpet? I really hate the cheap look of those metal things, but I don‘t know what other options there are except for folding (?) the carpet under (?). suggestions?thanks in advance!!: 3/8 drill. square drivers, trowel. grout float several 5gal buckets and sponges. Buy a sheet of tile cement board. its 3/8 thick and a box of backer board screws made specifically for the tile board. it comes in 3'x5' sheets. Standard code is 18 from the edge of the fireplace. I built mine 24 because it looked better. I had to also add carpet strips around it to hold the carpet down. built that part up a bit as well and used a strip of bamboo flooring trim made to hide the transition between wood flooring and tile.

Q: To any DIY‘ers out there!My kitchen has a white tile backsplash and these decorative fruit motifs here and there. They have these new funky stickers made to stick directly over ceramic tiles... and they last! Q: im looking for tips about PORCELAIN floor tiles.I read everywhere they can look like marble but without the maintenance issues, plus it is a harder material.I like the polished finishes .. and saw some samples of them.. rectified porcelain.I can‘t find much info on the net about its shape uniformity, but looks like they are kind of not so squared?I would like them big.. 24 inches, and spaced at the minimum which i think it is 1/8. But a few persons told me that is too close for porcelain and i should go with marble?The problem is that marble is much more expensive... so i don‘t know what to do.Are there brands of porcelain tiles known for their good uniformity... how should i shop for them.,? i don‘t know what to look for. please help.Please do not suggest any other type of flooring... im not interested. If porcelain is always not uniform, then what would the minimum spacing between tiles be so they look fine?Thanks a lot.: I'm not sure what you're looking at but all the porcelain tiles I've seen are square. All square. Very square. There should be no uniformity issues whatsoever. Go to a home improvement store and take a look. The tile type really has very little effect on spacing. However if you want 24 tiles I would suggest 1/4 grout lines at least. It will be extremely difficult to maintain a straight even grout line If you go 1/8. Imagine, if for some reason one tile was out of square a little or slightly offline (which does happen) the grout line would disappear completely. The grout would also be more likely to break if there was any movement in the floor. If you insist on 1/8 spacing, it can be done, but the results will be almost definitely poor.

Q: We currently have vinly tile in our tiny kitchen. We want to upgrade but want something that looks nice and is easy to install. What would you recommend (not wood)? Also, would we have to take up the vinyl floor tiles or install on top of it?: you can lay vinyl peel and stick tiles on top of your existing sheet vinyl if your sheet vinyl is in good condition and stuck down well, you can apply a skimcoat of feathering patch on top of the vinyl they sell an epoxy additive instead of water to mix with so that you have good adhesion to the sheet vinyl I bought my peel and stick tiles at Lowes along with the skimcoat mix. Tiles were roughly $1 a piece and look much better than the sheet vinyl. I liked Lowes selection of tiles better than Menards and Home Depot. I redid two bathrooms, front entry way and kitchen this summer
