Q:I need to know if flexbond is the best stuff to use for this type of job for a do it yourselfer. I have never worked with this stuff. I have only used regular thin set mortar in the past. Is it hard to work with?? And to lay the tiles this large do I have to butter the mortar on or can I just trowel it onto the plywood floor? Thanks, Fran
Flexbond has the same consistency as other thin sets. So it isn't any harder to work with. As far as applying it to the back of the tiles and the floor, I typically don't. If you have high or low spots in the sub floor, use an appropriate floating material to feather those spots out before you lay any tile. You can use something as simple as a 4' level and just lay it on the floor moving it in every direction to look for high/low spots. That is the only reason to apply it to the back side, to fill low spots. Use a 1/2 notched trowel to spread the flexbond. The key is to not make it too soupy when you mix it. If you do, the thin set tends to drop some, typical to air out of a balloon (if that makes sense to you). That will be what makes tiles not adhere fully. You can tell this by tapping on the tile the next day. You will here the hollow sound. If you have that scenario, remove that tile and reset it before grouting. Here's a tip to make the grouting easier. Keep a bucket of water and sponge with you as you lay the tile. Wipe the excess flexbond off the tiles and from the spots between the tiles where the grout will be. If the flexbond is down 1/4 from the top of the tile, that's fine.
Q:Real tile or those that u just glue on?? why?
I wouldn't invest real tile into a mobile home. I would have to say laminate tile squares...which can be easily applied and look quite nice.
Q:We are buying our first home and want to do some updating but are on a budget. We are not experienced in do-it-yourself home projects but would like to try.How simple or how difficult is installing carpet tiles? We know nothing about them really.
you can do it- just follow instructions. When I was a kid we garbage picked the carpet stores for left over remnants- any size. When we had enough we took them to the basement and randomly glued them to the floor for a patchwork design. If a kid can glue carpet down- so can you.
Q:We are tiling our kitchen back splash with travertine tile/ tumbled marble tile.Should we seal the tile before it is on the wall or seal it after it is on the wall?Thank you.
Put the back splash tile on - then take a sponge and apply sealer to tile. Do not get sealer on edges that grout will fill in - put just on surface of tile. This will keep grout from sticking into small holes/dips in surface of tile. Let sealer dry good - then grout. Apply blue painters tape to edge of top up against wall to keep grout from getting all over the top. Apply about 2-3 strips of 2 blue painters tape here and also on any edges of wall cabinets/window trim etc. After grout is done and cleaned up - Apply grout sealer. Set first row of wall tile on a yardstick placed on the surface of the top. This will give you an even grout line starting off on the bottom. Use a *fast grab adhesive which will keep tile from sliding around. Take off any electrical covers and apply black electricians tape around the sides of the terminals on these receptacles/switches. Do a good job - take your time.
Q:Dont worry about looks with the dollar tile just want to know pricing pretty much on the tile and how expensive it is.
If you are doing the tile work yourself, it will be cheaper than having one of those fiberglass shower enclosures put in. You are looking at the cost of tile (at $1/sqft.), grout ($10 or less), permabase/durock ($9 per 3x5 sheet), mastic ($30 for high quality), and caulk ($4), to get the job done. On an average size shower, this will bring your total material bill in at right around $200. This is based on entirely ripping out your old shower walls (back to the studs), and building an entirely new shower. A complete rennovation for $200. This is what I do for a living, and I can honestly tell you that you will save tons if you are handy enough to do this yourself. One side note on the pre-fab showers (fiberglass, urethane, etc) - we get a lot of calls to come out and remove mold from these types of enclosures. On most that I've seen there are a lot of corners and small nooks that moisture gathers up and sits in. Just something to watch out for should you go that method. Good luck to you, either way.
Q:80 by 80 tiles a box of 3 pieces equal to how many squares?
0.8 * 0.8 * 3 = 1.92m2 material calculation should not be used on the edge material included, so that the second purchase of color is not on.
Q:it is literally burning hot have no idaea wat the problem is plzz help:). porcelain tile btw
you proll have in floor heating. its pipes running throo your floor with hot water.
Q:How to remove paint from wall tile in our 1929 home? Floor tile is original and in excellent shape. Help?!?
What type of paint and what type of tile? What is the base to your paint, in other words. Different paint and different tiles have different answers. Often with older ceramic tile and if you don't use oil based paint... you can simple take a fingernail and scrape it off easily with no damage to tile. You can try a small razor blade and be very very careful about it, which is what i've done many times. Paint thinner can help, mineral spirits as well. But can hurt many different types of tile. But without knowing specifics, i can't give a specific answer to the best method of getting the paint off.
Q:I know he does art with rubiks cubes but I just want to know the type of tiles he uses for his street art and where i might be able to buy some.
Space Invader Tiles
Q:If you were going to tile an entire room would you start from the walls or floor? The room is only small 12m walls amp; 4m floor amp; is a basic toilet amp; basin. There are no border tiles amp; no fllor to wall tiles.
I've seen it done both ways. But I prefer to do the walls first. That way what ever mess is on the floor can be cleaned up easily and it is not on the new floor tiles
