- Q: I want to put vinyl tiles on my pre-existing ceramic tiles but in some areas there is no ceramic tiles and I need something to fill in the gap to make my floors even when I put on the vinyl tile. What should I use? Then when my floors are even how do i put my tiles?
- If you insist on installing vinyl tiles over the ceramic....first you need to abrade the surface of the ceramic, then you need a high quality floor leveler, such as Ardex to skim over the entire floor and fill in the grout joints. In the areas without tiles, you can use plywood to build up to the level of the existing tile. Make sure to skim over the plywood joints as well. Hopefully, you are not using the peel and stick tiles, because over time they do not stay stuck to the floor. Use the dry back and put the adhesive on the floor, and the tile in the glue. Just remember - your new floor is only as good as the floor under it...best to rip up the ceramic.
- Q: and 12 red tiles and 9 white tiles in pattern 3, how many white and red tiles will there be in pattern 6 and pattern 10?Thanks!
- The answer is: In pattern 6: 18 Red Tiles and 18 White Tiles In pattern 10: 26 Red Tiles and 30 White Tiles Look at the pattern for your answer. How do the number of tiles change each pattern? The answer is that Red Tiles increase by two (2) tiles each pattern and White Tiles increase by three (3) each pattern. So the patterns are as follows: Pattern / RED / WHITE Pattern 1 / 8 / 3 Pattern 2 / 10 / 6 Pattern 3 / 12 / 9 Pattern 4 / 14 / 12 Pattern 5 / 16 / 15 Pattern 6 / 18 / 18 Pattern 7 / 20 / 21 Pattern 8 / 22 / 24 Pattern 9/ 24 / 27 Pattern 10 / 26 / 30 So, as aforementioned, the answer is: In pattern 6: 18 Red Tiles and 18 White Tiles In pattern 10: 26 Red Tiles and 30 White Tiles
- Q: Want to put ceramic tile floor down in bathroom. It has a lanolium floor now. What is the best way to prep, in order to have a good tile job.
- Everything is possible. But depending on the type of tile I would not recommend painting it, especially if it has a glazed finish to it. The only thing that might work would be an epoxy coating they use on garage floors. I know if it was my house I wouldn't want to rip it out and re due the tile, but at the same time I do not think you would be happy with the paint after a few months and it is flaking off or wearing thin in the traffic areas, (that is assuming it will stay on that long). Good luck!
- Q: I live in Tennessee near nashville, I want to recarpet and ceramic tile in my house but want an estimated cost, of how much so i dont get jipped It‘s a 2,000 sq ft house and.. its two bath one kitchen for tile and three bedroom and living room and hallway for carpet.. anyone know where i can get help i dont want to overpay at all! also empire company has anyone ever done business with them? know if they are good at all///?
- DO NOT buy overpriced ceramic tile at a huge chain store. Find a discount builder warehouse of some kind that carries flooring supplies. We recently put new 12x12 tile throughout our entire house and paid only 68cents per tile! We got rid of all the carpet, it is so nasty! You wouldn't believe the germs, mold, dirt, sand, bugs, etc., that get trapped underneath, no matter how much you vacuum. The labor price depends on the worker. Ask around, find a friend who knows someone who lays tile. We had a friend lay ours for about $1.00 per square foot.
- Q: Our kitchen isn‘t that big and I hate the tile. My fiance says it‘s a huge big deal to remove the tile but not so hard to put new tile in.About how much does it run to remove tile, say from the average size kitchen.... it‘s about 7 foot by 18 feet.
- It should only cost about as much a sledge hammer costs. And you don't even need that big of one. Other than that just go in and hit it with the sledge and it will come up.
- Q: Can I go over the exixting tile,or do I have to remove the old tile first. There is ceramic tile there now,and I want to intsall new ceramic tile.I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question.
- As long as the tile down now is down tight and secure. The surface must be clean and dry w/ no oils or wax on them Dont use your plain latex thin set, get one that is stronger, price will help dictate it. Allow a minimum of an extra day drying time since the moisture has no where to go , before walking and or grouting. Any questions you can e mail me GL
- Q: I want to buy six glass tiles for my science project but i don‘t know where to buy them. There are windows for sale but I don‘t want to use hundreds of dollars for a window.
- cheap okorder
- Q: my bathtub tile peice just fell out and i am wondering what material i should use with it to put it back into place. Any ideas?
- Yes!! Scrape as much of the old glue away from the wall since anything you add will make the tile stick out farther than it did before. Next let it dry if its wet. Than apply some loctite adhesive to the back of the tile. Push the tile in until it is flush with the other tile. About four good size lines of glue will do it. Around the edges and then 4 vertical lines. This will allow the glue to expand and not hold the tile out. Wipe off any extra glue now . It hard to get off later. Let dry over night and than buy a matching grout to finish the job, Follow the instruction on the box. Good luck
- Q: Over time the tiles in my apartment bathtub have turned yellow. It‘s not all of the tiles, just a few in the back/corner. I undoubtedly have hard water but I can‘t figure out why a few of these tiles are yellow. As far as I can tell, these are cheap plastic tiles (white). I have tried comet (with bleach), full strength bleach, vinegar/water solution, vinegar/baking soda, baking soda by itself, mr. clean magic eraser, and full strength CLR to no avail. The only thing that worked at all was using comet and scouring the tiles with steel wool. Although it scratched the surface, the actual scratch part wasn‘t noticeable. But there has to be an easier way than breaking my arm to get one tile cleaned. Any suggestions? If anyone wants I can email them a picture of the tiles.
- Anything you've used that has already scratched the tiles will only result in hard water deposits clinging to them again, as the glaze has been compromised. CLR full strength is really the only thing that works that won't damage the tiles although it requires repeated treatments to clean them. Take an extra fine media abrasive (0000), mix a 50/50 solution of a product called Barkeeper's Friend and CLR and try this. You may have to treat it several times but the hard water scale should dissolve without damaging the tiles. I've heard of mixing a solution of scratchless cleaning powder and kerosene, but you don't want to apply that to plastic and you don't want to use VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) in confined spaces. A better solution would be to break out all the plastic tile and have it replaced with ceramics, but since you're renting and your landlord probably doesn't want to spend money on remodeling this is your best bet.
- Q: I am currently removing old cork tiles from the floor of my house. They are stuck down to the cement and as I‘m chiselling them up I‘m being left with a lot of glue residue with fragments of the cork too. Any tips on easy removal of the old tiles, but more importantly removing the glue? We are replacing them with new ceramic floor tiles. I was thinking maybe a heat gun and a scraper to clean it up but Dad has suggested a grinder! Any experiences with fast and easy removal of residue? I‘ve still got a room of cork to remove so if there‘s a better way than hammer and chisel I‘d love to hear about it!
- A sharp scraper a lot of hard work, the heat is a good idea as it will soften the glue making it easier to scrape the tiles loose.
