Q: I laid a new porcelain tile floor in my bathroom. Old linoleum tile floor was in good shape so I just laid right over the top of it. All turned out well except around the toilet. Two of the tile cracked when I screwed the toilet back down to the floor. Obviously I‘ll have to pull the toilet again, remove cracked tiles and start over....but how to I avoid the cracks again?
The floor under the toilet wasn't level so when the weight of the toilet went on top of the tiles it caused the tiles to crack. Make sure the tiles are back buttered as well as thinset on the floor and that they are level with each other. I would cut out any vinyl from around the toilet and then apply the tiles. Also wail for the thinset to dry for a couple days before installing the toilet so the tiles don't move.
Q: I am remodeling a small bathroom only 39sq ft. I had someone come out and give me an estimate, he brought a sample of a job he did and tried to sell me on that design, which will NOT complement my existing fixtures, since my existing fixtures are fairly new, I decided to reuse those to save me money. Anyways, this sample he brought me used 16in tiles, since my bathroom is so small, I think huge tile will make it seem even smaller and claustrophobic, I was thinking 1in-4in tiles, but this guy insists that large tile will make the small bathroom seem larger, is there any truth to this? Also, what is a good price to pay, I want the tub replaced, the tile around the tub, replace the small window, flip the sink and toilet so that the sink sits where the toilet is at and the toilet where the sink is, maybe re-tile the floor. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
Ceramic tiles are a great choice for remodeling your bathroom. You'll find a lot of opinions on tile size. Some people might recommend a smaller ceramic tiles for tile flooring in a small bathroom, but ultimately the decision is yours. You might want to consider asking for samples of several different sizes and bringing them in your bathroom to see how they look. Seeing a sample in your home might make all the difference. I'll post a link to our site below, where you can find a great selection of ceramic tile flooring. Hope that helps! Have a great day.
Q: Moved into a house where prior owner used glazed porcelain tile. Job unfinished but a little tile left behind. Not enough! Can anyone help me find GEO CERAMICHE Natura Sable BL 12x12 (or larger, I can cut it down). Have looked online to no avail (yet). Neighbors tell me the tile was bought at least 4 years ago but not later. Can anyone help me find 5 pieces of this tile?
Find where the tile was bought 1st.. Many big box stores will private label name brand tiles ( and many products) so you can t cross shop them..After 4 years I won t give you much of a chance to find them ..sorry... Styles change along w/ technology and they switch things to change w/ the times. It may be still available but chances are slim..Is it in a place that some sort of mosaic can be used as a decoration? Or maybe a good rug? Start w/ the big box stores but don t waste to much gas chances are slim .. I wish you luck ..
Q: I have some stick on tile that has come loose in a small hall area at some rental property. can you just lift thme up re-glue them? They are still in great shape.
Yes...life the entire tile off the floor. Make sure the floor under the tile is clean before re-applying the tile. Lay tile face down on newspaper and spary the clean back (free of debris) with a spray can of glue used for upholstery (you can find it in Lowes). Then wait about 2-3 minutes and stick the tile back in it's place. If you use liquid nails or other squirt on types of glue your tile will show the glue lines through the top of the tile.
Q: What are the dimensions of the tile?
There are many common types of tile are proportional to the 300X300 600X600 800X800 and 1000X1000. Ceramic tile size 300X300 300X450 300X600 there are 100X100. Ask more, why should we know the size of the problem? The Generally this will not be a problem. There are any indoor and outdoor space decoration problems continue to ask
Q: Specifically wall tiles in a bathroom
I have tiled a lot. I've used both mastic and mortar, but if you plan to use mastic make sure it's the kind for floor tiles. Next, find the center of the room. Mark a chalk line each way. Put down whatever you are going to use to adhere the tile. Place the tile. Make sure it's firmly in place, jiggle a bit but make sure it ends up square. Use the tile spacer of choice (size equals amount of grout) and repeat the process. Remove tile spacers once tile has set but not too long as it will stick too. Let tile set and then grout. Make sure you clean up the grout from the top of the tiles or it will set and ruin the tile. Follow the instructions on the grout carefully. Make sure the sponges don't have too much water in them. It sounds hard, but it's really not. Just time consuming.
Q: If you were going to tile an entire room would you start from the walls or floor? The room is only small 12m walls 4m floor is a basic toilet basin. There are no border tiles no fllor to wall tiles.
not a pro but i thought you were suppose to start in the middle of the room. chalk line the center of the room and lay tile from there but i quess it would all depend on measuring to see how much of a tile size you would be working once you got to the wall. probably make an adjustment from center line so that tile size on both walls would be same size. i would do a practice layout of a few tiles to see how things look before formal tiling./// i'll check back to see what the pros have to say.
Q: We have ceramic tile on the wall in the bathroom with a few tiles of color. Hate to change whole bathroom.
As Steven mentioned above, there are products out there that would do it, but not to a satisfactory level. There is a grout colorant which isn't that bad, but the epoxy-based paint that they use for the glazed ceramic tiles does not come out that good.
Q: How many squares are tiles?
According to the size of the tile and the number of packages
Q: I had asked the guy I am seeing to go somewhere with me tonight and he said he had to prep the floor before laying the tile? He has been working on a flooring job, but what do you do to prep a floor? Is this the same whether with tiles or hardwood?
Preping the floor for tiling can involve multiple things: First tile cannot be layed on any kind of surface It has to be dry and very solid without any movements or the tile or the grout will crack after some time, so it might involve some extra screws on a plywood floor removing cushion floor etc. If the floor is uneven or not level this has to be fixed before laying the tile also, this may include pouring some self leveling concrete to level the floor. The floor surface has to be completely clean before laying the tile, so brooming, removing baseboards etc. He may also chalk some lines as reference points before laying the tile. Hope this helps
