- Q: Has anyone every used Ceramic Tiles to re-do bathroom floors? I‘ve seen it done on HGTV but just wanted to knw if it was really that easy?
- Absolutely, ceramic tile are completely acceptable for bathroom floors. As for easy installation, if you have never tiled before that may pose a problem. I suggest splitting your floor evenly (make even cuts for either side of the room) both front and back and side to side. Be sure to pull the toilet, you'll need to replace the wax ring before resetting it. Your only other problem may come at the doorway. Make sure you under cut the jambs and cut your tile to fit underneath to keep from a half *** look. You have used a tile saw before i hope?
- Q: Does anyone know how to refinish or paint ceramic tile? Or a website showing me how? Please help! =)
- Hi, my brother installs ceramic tile for a living and has been doing it for about ten yrs or so, maybe less, maybe more, not sure, if you would like, I could find out for you, or have him contact you by phone or email.
- Q: I am laying ceramic tile over subflooring using 1/4 inch wonderboard. I am trying to not to have to move or modify existing floorboard trim. If I have 1/4 inch thick tile, 1/4 inch thick wonderboard how much thickness should I assume for adhesive? I have an existing 11/16 gap between subfloor and bottom of floorboard trim. Will I be able to use adhesive to close the gap to make fill the gap or are there other options?
- Not a good idea to try and use the adhesive in that manner to close up that gap.. The adhesive will be approximately an 1/8 th inch.. You ll find no floor is perfectly flat and no base board it truly straight. You asked for other options and the 2 best are to either use a shoe or trim molding after the tile is installed or to take off the base and re use it after the tile is on.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL
- Q: ok, I am grouting my ceramic tile in my kitchen and I sponged the tile when I was done and waited for everything to dry. I buffed the dry grout off of the tiles and I noticed that there is dry grout on the tiles and I can‘t get it off. Is there anything I can buy to take the grout off of the face of the tiles before I seal them? Please help.
- use a scrub pad
- Q: My husband and I just purchased a condo. We want to retile the bathroom in a more modern looking tile or maybe a marble or some kind of fancy tile. We are going to do it ourselves. Where can we find good prices on the tile?
- Now a days your best bet is a Home Depot or a Lowes. I don't know if you have these stores in your area, but the do-it-yourself type stores are really outpricing the mom and pop stores. Hope that helps....if you need it installed you can call one of the smaller mom and pop type stores. They are usually very fair as far as pricing goes. The reason they do not offer the actual tiles as cheap as the bigger stores is because they don't buy the nearly the amount of product as the big guys. If they could, they would. Hope that helps...please check out my question.
- Q: my bathtub tile peice just fell out and i am wondering what material i should use with it to put it back into place. Any ideas?
- Yes!! Scrape as much of the old glue away from the wall since anything you add will make the tile stick out farther than it did before. Next let it dry if its wet. Than apply some loctite adhesive to the back of the tile. Push the tile in until it is flush with the other tile. About four good size lines of glue will do it. Around the edges and then 4 vertical lines. This will allow the glue to expand and not hold the tile out. Wipe off any extra glue now . It hard to get off later. Let dry over night and than buy a matching grout to finish the job, Follow the instruction on the box. Good luck
- Q: We want to put the same sticky tile over the existing tile just stagger them. Will that be unstable or should we remove the old ones...which seems like work lol
- You need to remove the old tile.
- Q: I‘m having linoleum put in my kitchen and I‘m want to prep the floor. We already tore the carpet up and we weren‘t sure if we should clean the carpet adhesive off the ceramic tiles, or remove the tiles from the concrete.
- You will need to remove the tiles and clean the tile adhesive from the concrete or put down a plywood subfloor. Linoleum will in a very short time show any dimple, pimple or ridge that is under it. As an alternative, wouldn't it be better to rehabilitate and regrout the existing ceramic tiles? Lino seems like quite a come down from ceramic. If you're on a budget and the color of the tiles is wrong or some are cracked, replace the cracked ones with light colored tiles of similar thickness. Clean the tile floor thoroughly and paint it. When dry, apply a pattern by dabbing with a sponge dipped in a much lighter shade, then paint the grout by running a brush along the grout lines using an appropriate color. When dry apply 3 coats of satin finish urethane. I've used this method to rehabilitate ceramic floors twice now. The first time was in my son's house 3 years ago and it still looks acceptable despite the best efforts of my 3 grandchildren Good luck
