- Q: The existing ceramic tiles on the floor run up to the cabinets and appliances. Should I lay the floor first and then the cabinets or the cabinets first?
- You have to do the ceramic tiles first, put down the tiles were the refridgerator and stove are going to be and then build up everything were the cabinets and dishwasher will be. You have to do it this way or when it is time to replace the dishwasher or you have a leak you will not be able to get the dishwasher out with out removing the counters. Then put in your cabinets.

- Q: I am redoing my bathroom floor and I am going to use stick on tiles how do I put them on? Do you just stick them on the
- Make sure the floor is clean and all the old glue from previous installations has been removed. Pop a chalk mark from opposing walls so they cross in the center of the room. Start at the center and work towards the walls so that everything looks even all the way around when you're finished. If the tiles have lines or a pattern running in one direction then turn every other tile 90 degrees or it will look wavery. To help the tiles stick, stack them up and let an electric heater blow on them for 30 minutes prior to starting installation. Warm tiles are a lot easier to lay and get butted up without cracks between them.
- Q: I am considering learning how to become a tile setter. Do any of you know if it is difficult for women?
- This is not a completelt difficult manual labor type of job. I'd say its a bit easier than working constrution or other labor jobs. My father owns a construction company and I've seen a hand of woman work for him with little or no problems. You can be anything you want, as long as you work hard and are dedicated to it. There's no reason you cannot set tiles as a living just becayse you are a woman. In fact, woman tend to do well with fields that require thinking and setting things up. - Q: I got thisAmerican Florim tile about a year ago and can‘t remember if was Terra cotta tile. Does it look like it to you? If so it is 320 square ft of Terra cotta 18 tile. 5 or so tiles are broken on the corners.
- Chances are good that the tile was purchased locally by either the tile installer or the builder. If I were in your shoes, I would take the pictures to your local flooring businesses and let them identify it for you. Chances are good that you can still get the same tile in the same shade since it is only a year old. To save some time, call around to make sure that the flooring businesses in your area carry ceramic tile before you spend your hard earned gas money visiting them. Good luck with your project.
- Q: Tile setters? I paid someone to tile my bathroom floor using the 1 in hex tiles meshed together in 12 x 12 in pieces. Ive seen that type of tile done before and it each tile looks evenly spaced. The tiles he installed for me look like they were installed in 12 x 12 pieces as the perimeter of the meshed tiles has much wider grout lines than the interior. He says its normal and it happened because the floor is uneven but he installed the hardybacker himself so he should have leveled it.
- I just read your link, the Home depot ad says, Merola Tile 12 In. x 12 In. Old World Hex BLACK WHITE Flower Porcelain Mosaic Floor So these tiles should all fit together like the ad says and look like a mosaic on your floor, what a shame for you to see wider tile gaps around the edges of each tile because they are very nice tiles. I guess you need to get a third opinion from another professional tiler in your area and then haveit out with the guy who did you a bad job.
- Q: I just finished laying tile in my shower. How long do I need to wait before I grout? If it makes any difference they are simple 4 inch white tiles.Also, just out of curiosity, I was told I needed to spread the adhesive on the wall and place the tiles over that. It seems like it would have been easier to apply the adhesive to the back of the tiles. Especially the last few tiles. Does this make any difference?
- if it's a shower.spread the adhisive on the wall.it helps to water proof that material that you have on the wall.as for the floor you can grout a few hours later.the floor should be put down after the wall.if you did it already ver it with plastic and tape.when you tile and grout the wall.it will mess the floor up.good luck.
- Q: My tile is ugly mint green. nothing matches.I would like to know if I can paint this without it looking tacky.
- You should probably go to a tile specialty store and ask them what is available. My guess would be that if something does exist it is not going to look very good. Fiberglass kits are made that can be bonded to the old tile and provide a new surface of a shower stall. These kits are not difficult to install, basically you clean the old tile and then glue the new panel over it. Check with you local home improvement store, they should have them. For a much better look I would suggest going to the home improvement store and taking their free tile classes. This would allow you to lay your own new tile. You will still need to remove the old tile first. Again the home improvement store is where they can tell you how to do this. It's going to be a major demolition requiring you to basically remove and replace your shower walls. This sounds like a lot of work doesn't it... it is but I've learned that doing something right is always better than doing it half way.
- Q: We have small ceramic tiles on our bathroom floor. They are varied in shape and size (see photo).I think that these tiles originally came with some sort of netting on the back when they laid the floor and they added grout? I believe I saw some extra tiling somewhere in our home and this is what I had found.Anyway, the grout is breaking up between some of the tiles and some of the tiles keep popping out. I have two questions, If I regrout them do I put it on the bottom of the tile too and does that make the tile adhere to the floor?How would I get the grout to match what‘s already there, it‘s a medium brown gray. Not sure if it started out that way or became like that over the years. Would it look funny if the grout didn‘t match? How could I get it to match?

- Q: Do they make that large of a difference? I am tiling my entire house, but can‘t find 1200 sq. ft. of the same tile dye number. I thought i could use different numbers in the bedroom. Is it going to be that noticable?
- Just buy a bunch of cases and mix them all up. See if theres an arrow on the back of the tile so you have them all pointed in the same direction.
