- Quarry tile is not meant to shine . It s quality as a tile is its slip resistance. This is why its spect out in the use in restaurants and bar areas where water is present a lot. There are cleaners that you use to keep it clean but adding a product to make it shine will take away its main anti slip properties and make is slippery when wet.. - They were not set properly. Added thin set some times it needed or the peice that is high may not have been set down into the thin set properly. Some times they are not milled properly and are slightly curved. Several factors , all of which a good installer is aware of should have watched for. . - am not sure you Have to but as there will be water in the area its sure to be HIGHLY recommended. - having delt with water/mold damage for areas it Wasnt used - i personally would recommend using it. the best thing tho is talk to tile sales people find out the recommendations for the tile- perhaps there is some product to prevent the problems i have encountered. good luck
- Q: I need to know if flexbond is the best stuff to use for this type of job for a do it yourselfer. I have never worked with this stuff. I have only used regular thin set mortar in the past. Is it hard to work with?? And to lay the tiles this large do I have to butter the mortar on or can I just trowel it onto the plywood floor?Thanks, Fran
- Tile and use almost as a regular thin set. Flexbond like any stronger thin set will tend to set up a bit faster than standard thin set . This because of the added latex in the thin set. Mix a bit less than normal. Mix and let set for 5/10 minutes and mix again, being very important when using extra modified thin set. Although this is a stronger thin set and will bond to ply wood. - Q: I was told that a granite tile countertop is a cheap way to upgrade countertops. can I install granite tile over the existing laminate countertop? do I need any to install any material between the laminate countertop and the granite tiles? thanks
- Yes to both questions. I saw them do this on a home show. They put some type of a paper coating between the two. My suggestion is to go to Home Depot or Lowes, some place like that and they can tell you how to do it. I'm sorry that I don't remember the exact process but I have seen it done.
