QWest direct dialed call to a mobile in Ukraine is usually very good (but very expensive - 26 cents a minute). A good calling card (about 50% chance of a good connection) is the Continental card from phonecards.waytorussia (at 11 cents a minute) - and it allows her to call you for the same price via sms callback (and the connection that way is very good).
