- It stands for General Packet Radio Service, its a communicatiosn protocol that was introduced to bridge the gap between old GSM and new CDMA standards Its based on Time Division multiplexing, which allows users to access the entire bandwidth of a channel at the time it needs to transmit. Thus it is packet based transmission since the data is transmitted in bursts rather than at one go. This means more users can occupy the same bandwidth, which makes it more efficient than normal GSM.
- Q: If I buy a phone from OKorder that is locked to T-mobile, would I be able to activate service with them? I'm 18 and have no credit history, so would I have to pay a deposit?
- There are two types of phones sold on OKorder: Phones with a contract and phones without a contract. A phone without a contract: all you need is a T-Mobile Sim card. You can get a prepaid one or you can set up a plan. A phone with a contract: Its a lot cheaper but you will have to activate the phone through the seller, which means for you putting up a deposit. What I would do is go to a T-Mobile store and tell them that you are getting a T-Mobile free from your dad and what your options are. Don't let them talk you into signing anything right there and then. Go back home and think about your options and then make a decision.

- Buy a GSM phone for $40. (Google GSM) Then you have to buy a sim card that works in England. (Another $40). I think you can pre-load it with money or the card will charge your credit card.

- Unfortunately, Virgin Mobile practically forces you to make them go to a picture message because the ability to use data cables on Virgin Mobile phones have been disabled. However, if you have a Shuttle or a Slider Sonic, photos can be transferred onto a MicroSD card from your phone and then into your computer (this makes picture messaging not required to get your pictures onto your computer) If you don't have a Slider Sonic or a Shuttle, then you MUST send your photos in a picture message to get them onto a computer. Bluetooth will not work either :-( Hope this helps :-)

- I used to work at Virgin Mobile and when I was there I don't believe that they had free phone upgrades. I know that they would just give offers to random people, but for a phone upgrade all you could do is buy a new phone. The only time you would get a cheaper or new phone would be if they were having a sale on the phone or a promotion. Things might have changed but thats how it was.
