- Q: Do Roomba robot vacuum cleaners actually vacuum, or are they just sweepers?
- It okorder /... We have one, and it is much more effective - particularly on carpet - than a sweeper. It has a bit of trouble moving around on deep, loose shag carpet, but it's great on hard floors, rugs and other carpet types. HBJ

- I have a couple of Oreck vacuum cleaners. They have disposable bags. They are powerful and light weight. You need the Oreck hand vacuum that goes with the upright Oreck as there is no hose on the main unit. Oreck has a small vacuum with all the hose attachments and it also has a disposable bag. Very handy for doing stairs. I've had mine for about eight years with no problems at all.

- Years ago vacuums were mostly metal, with plastic used sparingly, as in bumpers, trim, etc. Nowadays vacuums are 98 % plastic, with metal used sparingly, such as in the motor, wheel shafts, screws, etc. Bissell has traditionally used a cheaper plastic, similar to the stuff they used to make those cheapie little toys out of. It doesn't stand up to rough use very well, cracks easily and breaks. Eureka has been in the vacuum business longer and I feel, makes a moderately good product. I'm not aware of any Eureka u/r's that allow for agitator shut down while running. Panasonic makes an u/r with that feature, as does Riccar and Simplicity, all in the $300-$500 range. Bagless machines require more filters to catch the dirt that the bag normally stops, so require that you purchase filters regularly instead of bags. It's a trade off. Also, when you dump the dirt container there's always that little puff of dirt back into the air, which you can frequently bypass with a bag. Consumer Reports rates bagged units over bagless units, nearly every time. One of the best vac's for the money is the Hoover Windtunnel u/r. If you have trouble with your arms or wrists they are available in self-propelled models, if not get one without. They all have great suction and a good agitator system.

Its invading my territory. What if it pees and marks its spot? aah!!!! I would suggest putting your dog outside when you vacuum. It wouldn't hurt your dogs ears as much (because he/she wouldn't hear it) And if your dog does have a territory in your home, and your dog is inside, don't vacuum so close to it unless your dog could really care aless or he/she is outside! I really hope this helped!
- Q: The vacuum cleaner is a Toshiba brand (VC-702EX). I tried checking the local hardware shops but I can't find it anywhere. They are only selling filters for new models of vacuum cleaners. I can't even find the local Toshiba distributor here.

- The adjustment settings on vacuum cleaners are there so you won't ruin the roller brush on the vacuum....not the floor. What make/model of vacuum cleaner do you have? My vacuum cleaner (a Eureka Boss SmartVac) has different height levels and then 2 adjustments for using hard floors.
