Not sure whats going on with it, and no one in the house knows anything about plumbing. Just need to know maybe a good place to start looking for a problem.: first start by figuring out which side the water is coming from.(Hot or cold) by turning the shut offs under the sink off one at a time. Shut off the hot first then wait a few minutes watching it to see if the drip stops. Then turn the hot back and and shut off the cold. once you have that narrowed down, I gguaranteeits a problem with the cartridge. Whether its a gasket or a worn down seal it's easy and cheap to fix. Take apart the handle that's leaking and remove the cartridge by googling how for step by step instructions. (should take about 3-6 minutes.) Then run over to home depot and get a replacement. They usually have a book with all the different kinds so take the broken one with you. Don't let them sell you a repair kit. It's worth the extra few bucks to get a new one. Then take it home and put it back together.

P.S If the damage was accidental you may be covered on your house insurance. You may be better advised to buy a new sink, your eyes will always be drawn to the repair when you use the sink. Q: i smell a bad smell form the drain of my sink... i believe the contractor who installed it forgot to block off one of the pipes or something. suggestions on what might be the cause of the bad smell?: There is probably a fault in the hydraulics design of the drain system which is causing the water seal in the trap to be lost - usually when the lavatory is flushed (which is almost certainly on the same drain run). This allows sewer smellls to enter the house. You might need to look into fitting an air admittance valve (dervo) which would easily cure this - but you would be better getting someone to look at it for you if you do not know what yu are about. If it was me I would have the contractor back to sort it.

It is then reinstalled and a double check is done to make sure it is not going to leak. A large adjustable pliers is needed to take apart the fittings and then re tighten them. The P trap is a necessary part of the plumbing as it prevents sour gasses from coming up through the sink, the water in side, acts as a barrier.

Q: The water just sits in the sink for hours.: Hi there, You can go to a hardware store and (in the plumbing department) look for something called a sink auger also may be called a sink cleanout. This device is about two feet long and looks like a spring with a hook on the end. There will be instructions on the package but basically you just insert it into the drain and rotate. The hook on the end should loosen the clog or allow you to pull the clog out. If in doubt find a clerk and tell him/her what your problem is and ask for a recommendation. I would not try any of the liquid products that claim to dissolve clogs. Usually they do not work for me. If the sink auger does not work you can remove the p-trap under the sink and usually find something is stopping it up. It will be easy to unclog the trap once it has been removed.
