- Q: I know that NiMH batteries self-discharge over time, but mine are discharging in just a matter of hours. I am using them in a RC airplane. They are 9.6V 650mah AAA packs. I charge them up just as they should be and they put out full power when I test them in my plane. I go to the gym for a couple hours and stop by the flying field on the way home, but when I plug the battery in the motor on the airplane immediately goes to cut-off.An interesting note: If I hold the arming button down to keep the motor going, eventually it will work itself up to putting out enough power to do some low powered flight and will last the duration over normal flight time for the airplane
- The battery pack is new to you, but it could have been on the shelf in the store or a warehouse for a very long time, easily a couple of years. A single bad cell can ruin a battery pack. 1) One of the cells might have gone bad and can't hold much charge, so it depletes quickly during discharge. The available battery voltage then is 9.6 - 1.2 8.4 volts. As current flows through the bad cell the current reverse-charges the cell, and the available voltage drops to 8.4 - 1.2 7.2 volts. 2) When a motor starts it requires a high current, and this drops the voltage out of the battery due to the internal resistance of the battery. If one cell is bad then the internal resistance is very high. Once the motor is running the required current is less, so the internal resistance of the battery is less, and the battery is able to maintain an adequate voltage. Factories do not test the cells to match their discharge cycles. This can happen to any battery. Car batteries, sealed lead-acid batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, lithium batteries. extra : This is a huge problem for any large power-storage system, from solar-cell systems to hospitals and server farms. They use large battery banks to give them ride-over time until they can get their gasoline/diesel/natgas generators running. Monitoring each cell in a battery requires special electronics and in the past was not worth the trouble due to the cost. There are now electronic designs that will do this monitoring, but it's not going to be done for cheap RC battery packs.
- Q: I have a home made batter pack consisting of (8) 3 volt batteries. I need a charger so does this mean I need to get a 24V charger? I'm curious because if it's a battery pack, wouldn't the charger charge each individual battery cell up to its peak voltage, therefore not needing a 24 volt charger?
- Be careful, Andrew. Improperly charged batteries can catch on fire, and even explode. You need to do a LOT more homework before you try this. For example, from your post I can tell you are not clear on the difference between a serial and a parallel battery pack. That's pretty basic, so I don't think you know enough yet to be hooking things up to live current. PLEASE do more reading! I wouldn't want you to hurt yourself or someone else.
- Q: I have an old remote control air plane rechargeable battery I want to use for something else. The problem is I need it 9.6V and the two packs of 5 cells is 6V each. I want to combine the two 6V into an 8 cell 9.6V but I can't seem to split them apart. Currently I'm discharging them through the old airplane motor that they came with. First off, should I be messing with them. If so, is running them through a motor a good way to discharge them, and finally how should I go about separating them so I can recombine them?
- Those 6V battery pack was packed with hard glue and welded joints. Separating them is not an easy task as you though without any proper tool. Besides, most old old rechargeable battery pack 50% inside the cells were dried out or leakage or shorted due to aging. Not much chance to rebuild them into a workable 9.6V pack.
- Q: I ordered a pair of Astro A40 Wireless headphones. After they shipped I did some research and found out that they come with 3 standard AAA batteries that you put into the transmitter. They do have an option, however, for a rechargeable battery pack that can go in place of the AAA batteries (they sit in a battery holder that is then removeable). This pack is then charged inside the transmitter via USB cable. So being the penny pincher I am, I was wondering if I went out and bought 3 rechargeable AAA batteries and put them inside the transmitter, would they safely and correctly charge inside the transmitter in the same fashion as if it was the custom battery pack?Hopefully I was clear enough Any answers are appreciated! :)
- It might work, if the batteries are of the same chemistry as their batteries, and the holder is not special, which has special contacts or a switch closure. I would probably do it because I know what I am doing. I have taken cells from older cell-phone packs, and used them in a regular cell charger, and as regular cells in things, so it stands to reason it can go the other way.
- Q: I need to know what I need to get. Thanks
- There are a few choices. You can get the Play and Charge kit that comes with a battery pack and a charging cable for $20 so you can charge the pack while you play. There's the Quick Charge which comes with 2 packs and a charge stand that plugs into a wall socket. This is good if you use more than one controller at a time. Also, there's the Nyko charging base which charges the packs while they're in the controllers. You can also buy extra packs at any store that sells 360 stuff (Walmart, Gamestop, etc.). I like the Play and Charge because it's cheap and dependable.
- Q: I bought a wen cordless tool kit about 5 yrs. ago. The tools work great, but the batteries wont hold a charge. Even at wen site I cannot find replacements. I heard they could be repacked? thanks for any help.
- You might try Batteries Plus if there is one in your area.
- Q: hey, my xbox 360 batteries in the battery pack dont last long at all. i use duracell batteries an i go through a 20 pack too fast. im going to get a charger that plugs into the top of my controller soon, but im worried if it will charge my duracell batteries or not? if not, what batteries do, an if you dont know can yieu suggest the batterys you use an recharge using the cord charger. thanks
- It will be very helpful to get the cord. I use the cord on my controller and I don't use a battery at all. The cord won't recharge the batteries unless they're rechargeable batteries (I believe) but as long as you have the cord you wont need the batteries at all. Hope this helps.
- Q: if i put in the 2 AA batteries in the control they turn on. but the battery packs don't want to work. if i connect the charger they work but the charger keeps disconnecting or something cuz while the charger is in the light doesnt turn on unless i push the charger in and hold it. majority of the time the conntroller stays off. the system says the controllers have a 3 out of 4 bar charge but the contollers will still disconnect and stay off. any help would be amazing!

- Q: i have a 2001 blue madden pspbut i dropped it and now the thing to cover the battery wont stay in placewhere can i find one or how can i fix it? i really dont want to use tapehelp!
- try looking on OKorder for psp parts or call up some game repair shops to see if they have any
- Q: Can I use an 800mAh 7.4v 10c on an rc plane when it calls for an 800mAh 7.4v 20c? What are my risks if I do use the 10c pack? Any help would be appreciated (:
- 10c determines the power of the battery so unfortunately you can't send a baby to kill a wolf. you can't put a 10c on your model because the battery wouldn't have enough force (or amps ) to push those motors around. At first (first 2 minutes) it would be fine but then it would overheat and possibly swell in fact, you would hear the motors slowing down please do not try to do this because if a lipo battery swells it could catch in fire. If you have a swollen battery please discard it as soon as you can, not in your trash can but outside where fire will not do any damage. the procedure of discarding a swollen battery is to put some water and lots of salt in a cup that you won't use anymore and then drop the battery in the cup and see how many bubbles form when there is no more bubbles comming out of the battery, you can discard such battery because it doesn't have any voltage and it's harmless. better buy a 20C battery which can give more amps than a 10c battery. i made this mistake in the past lol.
