- Yes, you can only use it to charge the new ipod and they have the same wattage because both of them have the same type of battery, however you cannot use the firewire cable to sync songs to the new ipod, the only thing that u can use to sync music to it is an usb cable, it already comes with it. - As John has said that is esata and not usb. Also your drive is a 3.5 form factor not 2.5. The adapter suggested will do O.K if it is not going to be a frequently used device. If it is you need to get an external case. If you want help for that ask me. A 3.5 drive needs an external power supply which the suggested adapter includes.
