Q: Help what can I do I live in a apt complex did use any comicals so what is it: if your sink was properly plumbed this wouldn't happen. most likely you have no p trap underneath, the p trap creates a standing water barrier to keep sewage gas and other vapors from rising back out of the pipes and smell up your house/apartment. check under the sink, if you have a p trap then you have a slow hotwater leak , most likely at the faucet, that is constantly re filling the ptrap with hot water, hence the steam. if you do not have a p trap tell your landlord to install one.

A pedestal sink will generally cost a little more in both labor and for the sink itself. I would love to give you an idea of cost, but with so little information, I'd hate to give you bad information. Your best bet would be to call around to a couple local plumbing shops and have them come out and give you an estimate. A lot will do this at no cost to you, and should be able to bring out some catalogs of different sink and faucet styles for you to look and and decide what you'd like. This will also give them a chance to look and see if there are any additional obstacles that would change the cost of the job (shut off valves that don't work, and other piping issues). Q: Our bathroom sink is leaking where the trap meets the pipe that goes into the wall. How can we tell what size the pipe is? What special tools (if any) are needed? Thank you.: Most pipe is sized by the inside diameter. I'm guessing 11/2 inches coming out of the wall,that's code. I'm also guessing you need a pair of channel locks that open up to the size of the fitting with the big threaded nut that ties the trap to the pipe coming out of the wall. If this is the case tighten that nut, if it still doesn't stop the leak there is a large plastic or rubber washer under that nut you have to replace.
