- Q: If you can tile on top do i need to prepare the old tile surface?
- Yes you most definitely can if the tile is down solid and is clean from grease and dirt etc.... You ll need to check exterior doors to make sure they ll open..A special modified thin set is strongly recommended and allow a minimum of 2 days (long if possible) before any foot traffic goes on the tile. This because there is no where for the thin set moisture to go and you don t want to break the bond.. No special prep work is needed aside from thoroughly cleaning the tile and grout. Don t set grout joint over grout joint if you have the same size tile.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: I heard that ceramic tiles absorb water and we have ceramic tile in the downstairs bedroom. After I wash the tile floor how long do I wait until I can move our dressers and furniture back on the tile? Because once I bring in the dressers I don‘t think the tiles will have a chance to dry because it is fully covered by the dressers, right?
- it depends on the ventilation in the room tiles will dry quickly because they do NOT absorb water
- Q: What is half tiles
- 1. The general situation of the so-called glass tiles on the market, throwing glazed tiles, microcrystalline stone are all tiles; (low price must pay attention to, although the whole tile, but most of the press small, firing time is short , Low cost of materials and other issues back to the tile to bring a lot of problems) 2. All ceramic tile water absorption is 0.1 standard or lower; 3. The market of large brands of antique tiles are basically all tiles, small factories are mostly semi-tiles (0.2 standard) All the tiles must be better than half of the brick, of course, the price is high When buying to see the end of the end of the pooh whiteness and its intensity, hand to feel the side of the smoothness and so on! Should be well differentiated! search for
- Q: Im putting that peel-n-stick tile stuff in my new apartment over the stuff thats there (i dont know what its called but its like plastic kinda) is there any thing i have to do other then sweep before i put the new one down?
- You don't have to remove the existing floor, but know that if it has a heavy textured pattern, that texture may show through on the new layer of tile. As suggested by the others, clean it thoroughly and use a product that will remove the wax coating from the existing floor. It should be dull in appearance once you've cleaned it.
- Q: standard shiny, white 4x4 tiles. I want to redo the bathroom stalls, but heard from some people that it could take forever, and that i might end up messing up the the drywall? to me it sounds simple... just get a spatula or something of the sort and scrape off the tiles... is that how it goes or is it more difficult than that? has anyone out there done this? what tools would i need? what type of tile cutter do you suggest? i‘d like to replace the tiles with something bigger... maybe 10x10 tiles?
- Being that your house is pretty new most likely the tiles are on drywall and set using latex glue. However if they were set using thinset cement on drywall it will be a little harder or if the builder used the older method and set the tiles in cement on wire mesh, then it's a beast and everything must come down. Using a stiff putty knife start at the top and tap the putty knife behind the tiles and gently pry away from the wall. You will have some damage to the drywall, apply drywall compound, let dry sand down and paint with primer. NOTE: Be sure to wear eye protection and gloves, broken tile is very sharp. Also protect your tub by installing a piece of plywood on top of it to prevent falling tiles from damaging it. It's also not a bad ideal to just tear out the drywall and tile and install new backer board. Maybe a little more work money but In the long run it will make for a much better job. If you are going to use that large of tile you really should tear it out and use the cement backer board and thinset as your glue as these tiles are heavy. Rent a wet saw to cut the tiles.
- Q: i wanted to make a moseque out of ordiniary household tiles i have left over from small jobs around the house. can this be done and is it safe?
- Some tiles are rated for indoor or outdoor use. Others aren't. Check with the place you bought them from to find out. If not, they will rot and deterioriate quickly.
- Q: how do i start my own tiling business?
- First get your contractors license. Then receive licenses for the cities you're making plans to function in. Find a well bookeeper to manage your taxes. Plan out your promoting. Phone publication, information papers, and every other form. Find someplace to behavior what you are promoting out of. If you're going to have staff, have your bookeeper let you know of all of the authorized matters that have to be performed. SS withholdings, staff comp, and wellbeing coverage. Have a six months backup of cash to tide you over untill you begin creating a benefit out of the trade.
- Q: are tiles get really dirty fast and i tried everything and i cant get them to stay white could i use bleach?
- Get a product called Black Magic. It's a bleach-like spray that works good on mildew. Follow the directions
- Q: I don‘t have a ton of money for my kitchen but I feel I can do some minor things. I) Orange countertop MUST go. I am seriously considering due the lack of counter space in the kitchen, what you see is my only countertop space, is move the fridge to the wall on the right, which you cant realy see in this pic, but there is an inside interior wall im going to set the fridge against, and then extend the countertop the wall, and put a base cabinet below it, and one above it to be the same size vertically as the one next to the fridge. A neutral beige-ish countertop, and then probably a range top thing for above the stove. Replace old sink faucet too.My question about making a tile backsplash for above the sink, would ie be more logical to measure it out, and put the tiles on a piece of plywood and screw that 2 the wall instead of grouting the wall and tiles affixed to the wall directly.
- With all due respect to others answers, some valid, and to you, and even to the installer, and after having installed thousands of sq. ft. of tile, and miles of grout lines, I have a few things to offer. First of all the installer may have just been a SUB, and not at all liable for what YOU chose. Second: Without knowing the dealer I suggest that any Decent / vaild / reliable Tile sellers would currently have Grout samples of the REAL color choices. Those are usually in a demo kit type form in 1/4 inch strips, maybe 4 inches long. With no offense to you, choosing a grout color from a card is like choosing a paint color from a card, and I've applied thousand of gallons of paint as well. At this point the tile grout stain may be your best option, and may in fact work for awhile over sealed grout. in any case it will be an issue you may have to maintain, just as you would a normal cleaning program for any tile surface and even sealer isn't a forever thing. Personally I don't use sealer. I use a quality poly blend, sanded grout, that once set needs no more than proper cleaning on a regular basis. Steven Wolf
