- Q: rented an apartment about 1 year ago.My landlord put a brand new bathroom in including ceramic floor tiles,I just noticed cracks in 6 or 7 of the tiles but I do not remember doing any damage that would cause this. The only thing I did was flood the bathroom but mopped it up right away and the floor is waterproof anyway. The landlord said those tiles where very expensive and said they should last at least 10 years before they crack, and now she is taking the cost of the tiles including installation cost out of my security deposit.
- hi desire, you will possibly desire to touch the tradesman who laid the tiles to rectify the priority. It feels like they did no longer lay the suitable underlay for tiles. Are the tiles laid onto a concrete floor or wood floor? in the event that they have been laid on concrete, did they first lay that concrete in basic terms before tiling, or is it a preexisting concrete floor? If the concrete became basically laid in basic terms before tiling, and then the tiles laid right this moment quickly after, it relatively is obtainable the concrete has cracked and hence cracking the tiles. If tiles laid onto wood floor, did they first positioned down the ideal 'tile underlay' for wood flooring? without this underlay, the tiles does not adhere appropriate to the wood and can quickly raise. There might additionally be a concern with the adhesive that the tradesman used. Regardless, I strongly propose you touch the guy who laid the tiles to get them to evaluate and rectify the priority at their cost, no longer yours. If this physique of techniques does not confirm the situation call the corporation of the tiles and additionally the best contractor who put in the showering room. i'm hoping this became of help to you desire.
- Q: Can you Spackle over ceiling tile and then paint it, or do you have to rip all the tiles out and Sheetrock the ceiling to have a seamless ceiling?
- Not sure what type of tiles these are, but I'll guess this is a hung ceiling, with the metal strips holding up lightweight acoustic ceiling tile. If this is the case, spackle (used to fill holes in walls, etc.) is not an option. In theory, someone could mud the suspended ceiling, and it could possibly come out relatively smooth. However, hung ceilings are not made for this, and I doubt an amateur could pull it off with any degree of success. What's above the tiles? A real ceiling? If so, your best bet is to remove the hung ceiling, and either fix up the real ceiling above, or put a real ceiling up.
- Q: Anyone have any experience with using glass mosaic tile as the kitchen counter material (not just as the backsplash)? This would be for a lightly used area of my kitchen counter by the sink - not the primary work area. Would love to hear any pros and cons. Thanks!
- I have not yet run across a glass tile that is rated for use on a kitchen counter top. They will scratch too easily for use on a kitchen counter, and are more for a wall application. Ceramic is ok for a counter top, but does not usually come in a mosaic. Ther are a few though. Maybe you are making your own mosaic? Ceramic would be the easiest to work with. If it has a shiney finish though, it will show scratches with wear. Porcelain comes in mosaic sheets and is very durable. I personally wouldn't want a mosaic countertop because it would be uneaven, and have lots of grout. But if you are sure that's what you want, be sure to buy grout sealer, and use the correct cleaners so that sealer stays on! Or grout with an epoxy grout, it won't stain. It is hard to work with though.
- Q: Our new kitchen tile floor was grouted last Thursday (almost a week ago). They did a poor job removing grout from the tile surface - very rough ceramic tile. I‘ve washed and scrubbed, it is cemented on. On top of that I don‘t like the grout color.Nothing has been sealed. So I got some acid wash and a grout stain from Home Depot. The stain says the tile should have been sealed prior to using it, I dont understand why that is. So I dont stain the tile? I‘m afraid if I sealed the tile it would seal the grout, so seems like a bad idea. And the acid wash... is this going to ruin the grout itself? How careful do I need to be about not getting in on the grout? Unfortunately its a large area, kitchen and dining area. 12‘ x 30‘. I‘ll be scrubbing a long time.Any suggestions to make this easier? Thanks!
- First STOP. You maybe going in the wrong direction. The seal is only for the grout not the tile. Almost no tile needs sealed. Do not use the acid wash unless it is made for grout film removal. A regular acid wash will damage the grout between the tiles. Before you try the acid wash, try using vinegar about 50 / 50 with water. Then if that does not work use the acid wash if it is for grout film removal. Follow directions very carefully. this is important because if the acid is too strong it will ruin the grout How if you had the tile installed by a flooring store call them for help. if you contracted direct with the installer you may have to clean yourself. Now for the color question. Grout changes color as it dries. It will not be the final color for about 30 days. Yes you can have the grout stained a different color, but it should be done by a professional.
- Q: Or must I use Duraroc board or a similar item. Also can I use a ceramic wall tile on the floor ? I know they are of different thicknesses but would the wall tile hold up on a floor? Thanks for all the help.
- Since you didn't specifically state in a shower/tub area, the simple answer to a Can I? question is, Certainly My usual answer is, But you may be dissatisfied. With no offense to others; TILE is a very acceptable, industry standard. Obviously in a FORUM sense, exercising our Ammendment rights, we all have opinions. In a new construction or a re-hab I'd use concrete backer board (brand names aside) in a shower/tub area, and GREEN BOARD elsewhere. Sadly that isn't always the case in Tract housing. Floor Tile: Variances in thickness isn't an uncommon issue, given the process and material, but you can expect usual floor tile to be 1/4 to 3/8 thick. 3/8 being the heavy end of the variation. The issue is a bit more than the thickness however. Floor tile; decent or not is graded not in thickness, but in durabilty ratings, most dependant on Firing the tile in the first place. IE: #1 being the least durable...#4 or 5, being the most durable. Anyone who knows and sells tile should be able to advise that about a selection you make, and perhaps the vendor will even openly advertise it. Finally...Will the wall tile Hold up on the floor. In my bathroom it will, because I created a Grotto using Floor tiles in my shower area. Certainly even the highest rated Ceramic, glazed over tile, can chip if you dropped a Hair dryer on it, and depending on the surface color/finish, OVER the base clay color, you might find that a beautiful gray marbleized surface shows RED clay under? Porcelain tiles, often are finished through the entire thickness of the tile, but all of this suggestion largely depends on your research in attaining satisfaction. - Q: Can I install vinyl tiles in a bathroom. Will it shift over time and look bad. How does moisture affect vinyl tiles?
- It depends on the surface you put them on and the quality of the tiles. In most cases, with cheap peel and stick tiles that adhere to the surface below, they will tend to shrink, curl up at the endges and peel back after a while. It's not so much moisture as temperature changes and poor durability of the thin vinyl and poor adhesive. I'd recommend you use the Home Depot Allure line of peel and stick floating vinyl floor tile that is made by Trafficmaster. I just did a friend's bathroom with that product last weekend and was very impressed. The tiles stick to each other instead of the floor surface beneath so you can put them down over any solid surface and moisture will not effect them. They have a 25 year warranty also. At about $1.79 per square foot it is a pretty good deal and installation is a snap. We covered her entire 6' by 8' bathroom floor in less than 2 hours, including all the cuts around the toilet base and doorway. All you need to install it is a metal framing square or tee square, a sturdy pair of scissors, a measuring tape and a utility knife. Cool product. They make versions that look like tile and others that look and feel like real wood. We used the wood and it looks great. I've also used the Trafficmaster direct adhering commercial grade peel-and-stick tiles in areas that had moisture (an entryway and a powder room) with no problem but I made sure I had good birch plywood underlayment and I sealed it before laying the tile and also ran a bead of silicone caulk around the edges.
- Q: As in the tile you find as back splashes behind sinks.
- oil based deck paint.also ask at the paint dealers store.they will help you.good luck.
- Q: 20cm x 20cm uses 5 whole tiles, 4 half tiles, and 4 quarter tiles. Describe a method for calculating how many tiles of each type you needs for larger square tabletops.
- Total tiles = 5 * (4/4) + 4 * (2/4) + 4 * (1/4) = (20 + 8 + 4) / 4 = 32 / 4 whole tile equivalents = 8 whole tile equivalents We can conclude that since 20 x 20 = 400 = 8 whole tile equivalents the area of one whole tile is 400/8 = 50 sq cm So we take the dimensions of the table, a * b, and divide by 50 to find out how many whole tile equivalents we'll need. How many whole, half, and quarter tiles will be needed depends on the shape of the table and the exact dimensions of both the table and the tiles. The tiles might be any of these sizes: 5 x 10 cm 4 x 12.5 cm 8 x 6.25 cm or some other numbers as long as the product is 50 sq cm.
- Q: I want to buy lenulim tiles for bathroom. how can I measure how many do I need? and should I start putting in from the center? is there a link to watch? thanks.
- Measure Length and width then multiply the two measurements. This will give you the square footage for how many tiles you will need. When you go to buy- the carton will tell you how many square feet comes within the box. You should always start tiles at the center. This way if there are any tiles that need trimming, they will be at the edges of the wall and not in direct sight.
- Q: I was clowning around with my son and I accidentally knocked over a table and chipped a tile. It's about a quarter size chip. You can actually see the dark bottom part of the tile so its kinda deep. I was wondering if I can fix it without replacing it. What do I need? By the way, I blamed on my 4 year old !!!!!!!!! THX 4 ur help!
- Other than replacing the tile( which is a challenge for anybody) , all I recommend to my costumers is to cover the chip with an enamel to hide as best as possible. Grout won t hold since it s shallow and nothing to grip to.And the big splotch will stand out worse. An appliance repair enamel works well if you can find one to match or your tile is of a color that you can match..A rug or furniture is always a good stand by trick.
