Q: Im having trouble finding a rug that I like for my living room, so I was thinking of finding a large carpet remnant to use in the space instead. Does anyone have any tips for finishing the edges of the carpet to prevent frays and little carpet fuzzies taking over my living room?: Almost any carpet store will either have on site or access to a rug binding service. When I had my store , we had the color choices of the binding and we then sent the carpet remnant out to a place that did just that, bind the edges to stop it from fraying. Ours were sent out on fridays and returned on the next friday. Just check with your local mom and pop carpet store. Most all places charge by the linear foot to bind or serge a rug. Q: I have these holes in my carpet in multiple places (dog). To replace it, I was going to use the carpet in the closet. How do I do that (step by step instructions)? Where can I find carpet remenants?: Take a utility knife and cut out a piece of carpet large enough to cover the hole from the closet. Be careful not to cut out the padding underneath unless you need it where the doggie made the holes. Place the carpet plug over the hole making certain it meets the remaining carpet. You can secure the plug using a hot glue gun or running double sided carpet tape around the edges. Now use your fingernails to blend the fibers on the plug into the fibers of the surrounding carpet. You can find carpet remnants at almost any carpet store, just ask. Also for larger remnants they sell end rolls at the Home Depot and Lowes.

Q: I have burns in my landlords carpet from cigarettes. How can I remove the burns short of replacing the carpet?: You can't actually get rid of the burns. The carpet where it is burned no longer exists, it's not like taking out a stain. What you could try is to find a remote spot of matching carpet, a closet or something, a place where it won't be noticed if you take a little sample of carpet. Cut out the area around the burn, an inch by inch section or so, and also cut a piece from the closet that is the exact same size. Replace the burnt piece with the closet piece. Some strong glue should hold it in place. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. That has worked for me though. Good luck.

Q: i have a thin indoor/outdoor rug glued down to the cement in my basement, there is no padding under it, its a dark color so stains arnt a problem , its just the smell of urine and animal feces i want to get out, whats the best way to clean it .: You can wash it with warm water and soap or something or if it is old just throw it away
