Q: I need some guidance on hanging new wall tiles in my bathroom.1) can I tile over the existing tiles2) what are the pro‘s/con‘s of ready mixed adhesive against mix your own3) is all grout standard waterproof or do i need specialist stuff4) do you tile all the walls then replace the suite or put the new suit in first then tile? bearing in mind i hope to tile over existing tiles.5) is it true you shoudl first replace your bath, fill it with water and leave it overnight to level?Any guidance would be much appreciated......
[1] Yes you can tile over the existing tiles, What you need to do first? Is to rough up with rough sandpaper on the existing tiles to give a bite for the new tiles to hold on. [2] It is better to have ready mix, because it will have every things in it [3] Most grout are waterproof and also you can get differ colour grouts to match your bathroom. [4] Put in your new suit first, then tiles on top of your existing tiles, and grouts it as well. [5] fill your bath first, then seal it, so it will have the weight of the bath and water in it and it wont break the seal and lest chance of a leak.
Q: I am replacing a floor furnace and may need to replace some tiles. These are nominally size 11-1/2 x 11-1/2 x 1/2 inch. Thanks.
ooooh, good luck. Do you have a building material salvage company in your area? People who buy the fittings, etc in old buildings before demo. or remodeling.......are probably your best, if not only bet.
Q: It has been installed on a concrete slab for about five months now, could the slab not have cured right or is the tile layed wrong?
It is common on a poorly made one such as yours. People who laid them for has no masters degree, thats why they make a living of laying tiles. The work should have guarantee for one year and Im sure you kept some extra tile. Now you can get them to fix it for you with no charge.
Q: What type of drill bit should I buy to cut into 4 x 4 ceramic tile on the wall? Can I place the bit into a router? The hole is 10 x 10 and I need it to be 10 1/2 x 10 1/2. There is 5/8 DW w/ metal studs behind it.
Your best bet if your a 1st timer is to have everything layed out and know what your going to do ahead of time..Rent a wet saw to make all your cuts and have a helper / runner to do these if possible.. This will cut down on your time and rental.Straight cuts can be done on a hand cutter but may be harder for the 1 st timer especialy for the beginner w/ some porcelains..Holes can be cut by top and back cutting a square hole since some pipes will have covers.. If not you sometimes you have to split a tile and nip or cut a slot for the pipe..Stool flanges and diverter covers can be nipped sometimes so a pair of tile nippers are a good investment... To start center the tile in room and lay out.. If you end w/ 1/2 a tile or smaller recenter the tile so center line is in the middle of the tile.. Some times you have to make small adjustments in this to get a good lay out GL
Q: I am going to move into a home that has ugly green and yellowish tile all over the kitchen!! The walls and sink are green, the counters are a wood laminate, the floor is an old beige vinyl, and the cabinets are a dark color and are old and dated. What can i do to make this kitchen much nicer on a really tight budget?! Help!!
I understand your pain, my home has orange counters in the bathrooms and dark green linoleum floors. I sugget you look into the different kinds of paints that could maybe cover the ugly. They make paint that will go on any thing. Just have to do the research. For the floors, there is stick on tiles that you can get to cover for the time being. They work really good if you take your time and do it right.
Q: I‘m looking to re-tile my kitchen... I would like to get good quality tile, at a good price. Can I trust tile purchased at any particular large hardware chain, or should I seek out a specialty flooring store? Or does it even matter that much - is tile just tile?
Go to Home Depot, you will be able to find someone that works there and they will show you a wide variety of ceramic tiles. You would probably find what you are looking for or either you would see something you like. Let the professionals handle the work.
Q: i will be laying tiles o my bathroom floor and i am wondering if HomeDepot or Lowes do the tile cutting. i dont want to purchase the wet saw. i will need to cut tiles for corners and things like that. Thanks.

Q: im doing a science project and i want to know how to get mold or mildew to from on a tile
Make sure that you are not using a sealed/finished tile. A terracotta or the back of a ceramic tile will work as long as you keep it damp. To start soak the tile overnight in a bucket of purified water, not from the tap. Tap water has chemicals to kill off the spores for mold/mildew. You'll need to always keep the tile damp so a warm damp place will be needed. If you know of somewhere with some mold/mildew spores growing, that'll speed things up. Otherwise, it may take weeks to grow naturally. If you do have a source for the spores, use a Q-tip swab to wipe the spores off and onto the tile surface. Good Luck
Q: Over time the tiles in my apartment bathtub have turned yellow. It‘s not all of the tiles, just a few in the back/corner. I undoubtedly have hard water but I can‘t figure out why a few of these tiles are yellow. As far as I can tell, these are cheap plastic tiles (white). I have tried comet (with bleach), full strength bleach, vinegar/water solution, vinegar/baking soda, baking soda by itself, mr. clean magic eraser, and full strength CLR to no avail. The only thing that worked at all was using comet and scouring the tiles with steel wool. Although it scratched the surface, the actual scratch part wasn‘t noticeable. But there has to be an easier way than breaking my arm to get one tile cleaned. Any suggestions? If anyone wants I can email them a picture of the tiles.
try using Zud cleaner. found in Home Depot.
Q: There are thousands of individual tiles. If one falls off or something like that does everything burn up? thanks and how did the heat shield not work for the shuttle in 2003? it might have been in 2001 i have to ask my science teacher
The Columbia disaster happened because during launch some insulation came off the external tank and hit the leading edge of the wing, right between the two tiles and damaged the seal. During the re-entry, the hot gases from the re-entry friction got behind the tile and melted the wing structure. A few tiles fall off during flight, but it is not a big problem, less so than during the early years of shuttle operations. If you look at the shuttles, some tiles appear fresher then others.
We have advantageous location and convenient transportation, clay-rich, the factory is located next to a highway .
