Application of Our Glazed Porcelain Tile:
- Q: I need to replace a broken tile. I understand how to grout and tile but I have always done large sections and rented a tile saw. Can I use a dremal tool or something like that to cut it so I do not have to rent a saw ?
- Hi Mike H I’m Ken with The Home Depot in California. While a Dremel tool is a great tool, it will take you quite a while to remove all the grout needed in order to get the tile out. Use a grout removal tool. First as JJonDProwl stated make sure you are wearing safety glasses to protect yourself from grout dusk and tile pieces when you’re ready to break the tile. I have attached a link to show you a step by step process on how to remove that piece of tile. This will give you all the information to make you successful in this project. bit.ly/dszCiC Hope this helps.
- Q: My wife sent me to pick up some used floor tile. It still has the stuff (plaster? grout? whatever?) on the back of the tile. Can this be reused? Do I have to get the old stuff off? It is on there pretty uniformly.
- You could use this again if you want. The biggest thing is the thinset mortar on the backs and grout on the edges. If the mortar on the back is uniform, there's not much problem, but it will add to the overall height of the floor. You will also need to pay attention when re-installing to keep your top surface uniform (flat so that you don't have raised or low corners). As for grout on the sides, it can be removed painstakingly using some ceramic tile nippers. If there's a lot on the surface of the tile, it may be hard to get it cleaned effectively so that all looks good. Bottom line, you can reuse it. However, there could be a lot of labor involved in getting it ready for installing it. Unless it was really special, I'd look for something new - especially if you're going to install it in a large area.
- Q: The tiles were installed about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and we decided that we just cant live with the really wide grout lines that ended up gradually becoming huge. So we‘ll have to remove about half of the tile. Is it possible to remove and reuse these tiles? If so, what about the left-over thin set? Will it be stuck on the tiles? And what about the cement board under them? Is it reusable or easier to just replace? Thanks for any answers!
- This is going to be messy. Usually the tiles will break when removing them, if they were properly installed in the first place. Some tile may not break but the mastic will stick to either the tile or backer board. The mastic must be scraped off. Over all it would be simpler to just demo the old tile and start over.
- Q: Will the home decoration tiles brand which are better? Can you tell me?
- In the brand: Omega, gold medal Asia, Jiada, Jiajun, Chun Shi, Jane, gold Italian pottery, Rome Leo, Europe and the United States, specifically, Vero, beautiful, silver whale, Italy, Diamond, gold rudder, fire east, Hong Tao, gold pottery masters, Monte Carlo, Xinghui, Samit, Shun Hui, the king, Wells, General, Grice,
- Q: She worked at a steady rate after the first day.Use an equation in point-slope form to determine how many days Lizzy took to place all of the 100 tiled needed to finish the floor,
- She laid 5 tiles the first day, and 10 tiles each day thereafter: x = number of days Lizzy has worked laying tiles Total Tiles = 5 + 10(x-1)] Test this equation with the information you are given: 35 = 5 + 10(4 - 1) = 5 + 10(3) = 5 + 30 = 35 <<<<< TRUE So, now you can solve the problem. However, it is unclear to me whether Lizzy needs to lay 100 MORE tiles, or 100 tiles, total.... 100 = 5 + 10(x - 1) 100 = 5 + 10x - 10 100 - 5 + 10 = 10x 105 = 10x 10.5 = x It takes Lizzy 10.5 days to lay 100 tiles. 135 = 5 + 10(x - 1) 135 = 5 + 10x - 10 135 - 5 + 10 = 10x 140 = 10x 14 = x It takes Lizzy 14 days to lay 135 tiles.
- Q: My husband and I are building a new home. I would love to put ceramic tiling in my kitchen/dining room (they are combined). Do you think that 14‘X23‘ is too large for tiling? Its a concrete slap, and we will be doing the work ourselves. Any tips would be helpful!! I am looking for tips, suggestions, tools needed, extra supplies, ideas, horror stories, turned out good stories, I will take it all! Thanks so much!
- Ceramic tile is a great choice and you can do it yourself if you prepare yourself with a little knowledge and a few tools. My suggestion is to go to Home Depot or any other building supply place and pick up the information they have there on doing tile work. It is usually pretty good and will suggest tools you will need. The biggest problems you will run into is cutting the tile, you might consider renting a water bath cutter. I also suggest you consider going with a smaller tile if it will fit into your plans. Tile that big is not only harder to install neatly but is also more prone to cracking if there is any shifting in your slab. So read the stuff and make sure you have everything on hand before you start and be patient doing the work, especially making the cuts so it fits neatly and you will have a professional looking floor.
- Q: Do I meet the edge of tiles with the edge of the actual OPENING/HOLE of an electrical outlet or the edge of the electrical outlet PLATE COVER?
- Your cover plate needs to cover the edge of the tiles. The electrical box (according to the NEC) must be completely in the field of tiles, or completely out of the tiles. You, according to code, can not split the box between tile and untiled surfaces. Back butter your tiles(apply mastic directly to the back). Put on the first row, plumb and level. Let them dry overnight. Come back and finish your tiling with a straight first row and your chalk line is a non-issue.
- Q: What is the tile material?
- Tile with kaolin is basically no mainly clay-based quality of the tiles are now a large number of stone slag to stone-based bottom of the bottom of this tile is relatively hard quality is better
- Q: Someone told me its called tile- something) I know it has a nic-name, do you know it?
- imperial highway maybe
- Q: I would like to remove some tiles from one area of my kitchen and save as many as possible for use in another area of the kitchen. They are heavy 1979 ceramic tiles. How do I get them up and save some of them?
- Having recently removed a s***load of tile during a kitchen remodel, I wish you luck in saving a whole lot of them! Carefully slide a prybar under the edge of the tile---wiggle til it loosens then use the prybar as a lever to remove the tile. It worked for me. Surprisingly many remained whole without chips or cracks, and I wasn't trying to save them. Just didn't want the huge mess involved in the sledgehammer method. LOL
