Q:My family and i are thinking about replacing our floor tile this year and putting in something nice. How difficult is it to take out the old tile. What would I do with the tile once it is pulled up? Order a construction dumpster? And do we have to pull up the base board?I have seen it done on DIY network, doesn‘t look that difficult and seems like we could save money. And any suggestions on good looking tile that we could get cheap, maybe an outlet store. What‘s the difficulty level: beginner, intermediate or expert.
difficulty would be beginner,, its easy , can be time consuming depending on mortar under tile.. a good strong scraper will take up the old tile.. even a spade will make it easy.. the hard part is making sure the floor under the tile is level and smooth before putting more tile down.. just have to scrape at it and it will come off.. as far as replacement tile.. if you are in ontario ,, home depot has pretty good ceramic on sale right now for 59 cents a square foot.. its pretty nice tile too.. have used it.. if your anywhere else.. the big box stores always have a sale of some kind on
Q:want to tile counter top with out using hardboard
It can, but it won't hold up very well. The formica will break up underneath, leaving an uneven tile surface and you having to regrout it often. Take up the formica. - Stuart
Q:We have not picked out the tile yet, is one type better or worse/easier or harder to install?
Get a tile with a PEI rating of 3 or above. (PEI is a strength scale, 1 being wall tiles and 5 being tiles suitable for high traffic comercial use). You'll need a wetsaw, 1/4 x 1/4 x 1/4 trowel, a grout float, sponge, tile spacers, kneepads, grout, mortar, sealer, grout haze remover, and some time. It's really not that hard just time consuming. Grab a how to book at the local home improvement store. If you have any questions you can IM me too...happy to help out.
Q:What are the high-end brands in the tiles?
Cost-effective I know, here is the brand of Foshan, not to say that other places. I suggest you choose Haiman Lin ceramics, is the engineering tiles, polished tiles first brand, the original cast factory, style and more good quality. You look at their official website to understand it
Q:I want to know how to make tile based map in java. Retro games used tiled maps (to ease programming and memory management) but those games were created in assembly language. I know basic java. Now I want to make a 2d game in java, starting with a pretty basic 2d platformer type or top-down type. To do this, i need to know the technique required to make a map, a tile map.I have already searched in google and youtube and stack overflow, but none helped much. What I learnt is that I have to make some tile object and make a 2 dimensional matrix to store position of particular tiles. But this does not helped much. Thank you.P.S. there are many programs available on the internet for making tile maps, and also there are game making softwares and also libraries. i do not want to use any of those since i want to make my game with whatever java provides. Thank you. Also forgive my poor english.
first of all, you need to build different densities of 2D tile arrays according to how much of the map will be in the viewport at any given time. For example, a map at neighborhood level will need a gazillion more tiles than a map at the county level. Then, you need a way of converting the geographic reference at the center of the viewport to the tile that is covered at that zoom level, and for finding the adjacent tiles as well. Then, you'll need to calculate what parts of which tiles you are using will need to be clipped and by how much. Build a canvas using this information. As the map moves, you'll need to add on more adjacent tiles, and discard others, update the clipping, etc.
Q:i don‘t even know how to explain what i want to ask.. but here i go....how do you make sure they come out straight. i know how to lay them but how do you make sure the second row comes out straight at the other end. I guess i need help lining them. chalk line will help but how do i do it. is there a website or video that may help me. ((( i lay down the first row along the chalk straight line. i then lay down one half tile at the end of the first tile row. then i continue with the full tile so i can get a staggered look. but how do i make sure that the second row is dead on? help if you can thanks. also if you have any other advice for laying staggered floor tile let me know. thanks.20x20 Porcelain floor tile.

Q:How to convert tiles how much money a square meter?
The price of a piece of tiles divided by its side length is a square meter of the price, such as 80 * 80 brick 100 yuan is 100 divided by 0.8 divided by 0.8 = 156.25 a square meter
Q:Hey!,I want to know how to make handmade tiles that you can paint and stuff....I need step-by-step instructions please !!
In some measure it depends on how strong you want the tiles to be. Fired clay, in even a tile sense, is usually done at 3600 degrees in a kiln. Then cooled, painted/glazed/ etc. and fired again. At a decent pottery retailer you can find dozens of types of clay, and in fact some that is low fire, or even oven bake, which can be hand painted, and perhaps glazed over with a clear coat and no re-firing, but the strength and durability issue will still exist. Clay for tile, Ceramic or Porcelain, is slab rolled for consistency, Cut precisely, fired in kilns, cooled, then is decorated variously. Some larger houses will sell blanks that one can decorate themselves, even coffee mugs/cups/ bathroom sinks. etc. Obviously with a rolling pin and some risers, at 3/8 or 1/4, you could hand roll the clay and cut it, but then what? Below is a link for a general search to a company that can give you all the info you need in various methods and types of clay used. I spent a lot of $$$ with them in the early part of this decade. Q:making a counter top from spare tile pieces
Prep your counter to meet tile standards, Each one can be different so with out knowing what yours is I cant say there. You ll need to figure what you want to do with the edge to trim it out. You can use a tile bull nose or a wood trim. Spread the needed glue, usually a thin set , over a small area. Then you can break tiles , ( very carefully) with a hammer or a pair of tile nippers. I use tile nippers to create the piece effect. These methods are called rubble effect. You ll need a honing stone to hone the tile edges so they are not sharp. Set into the wet glue, don t let it skim over or become dry. Grout as needed depending on what type of tile you use. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
