Q: If you can tile on top do i need to prepare the old tile surface?
yes you can
Q: I recently put in a wood stove. It was professionally installed and certified to meet fire regulations. I don‘t know anything really about the install just that it doesn‘t require any r value underneath it. It just requires a pad for embers. There was a long waiting list to get it installed but an opening came up and we got it installed sooner than we planned. So we didn‘t get the tiling done. Currently it is sitting on a base made with 2x6s spaced 6 apart covered with 3/4 plywood and a sheet of durock cement board attached with durock screws and all seems taped with durock tape and covered with durock cement plaster. I want to finish it with tile. However, the stove is too heavy for us to lift. Its a pedestal woodstove so would it look okay tile up to the pedestal? If so how much space should I leave against the pedestal? What should I put in the gap? High-heat caulking? I‘m very new to this so any advice is welcomed. Thanks!
You will be better off if you remove the stove and tile. See if they installers can come back out and set it aside , be sure to make where the feet set first, measure and write down so that the feet doesn't sit on a joint . It will make to job make better,
Q: What is the difference between good and bad tiles
Tile selection method Home decoration to buy tiles, how to buy value for money, desirable tiles have some knowledge, in general, the principle of buying tiles is: a look, two listen, three drops of water, four feet. First, look at the appearance. The color of the tile should be uniform, the surface finish and the flatness is better, the surrounding rules, the pattern is complete, from a box out of four or five pieces to see whether the color difference, deformation, missing angle and other defects. Second, listen to the sound. With a hard light flick, the sound the more crisp, the higher the degree of porcelain, the better the quality. You can also left thumb, index finger and middle finger clip tiles corner, easily hanging down, with the right hand index finger tapping the lower part of the tile, such as the sound clear, sweet for the top grade, such as the sound boring, stagnant turbidity for the next product. Third, the drip test. Can be the water droplets in the back of the tile, watching the water spread after the infiltration of the speed, in general, the slower the water, indicating that the greater the density of the tile; the other hand, the faster water, indicating the density of sparse, the inherent quality of the former is excellent. Four feet The higher the accuracy of the tile side, the better the effect after paving, buy high-quality tiles is not only easy to construction, but also save man-hours and accessories. With the tape measure the size of each tile around the difference between the high accuracy of the top grade. In addition, observe the hardness, the tiles to good hardness, toughness, not easy to rot on top grade. To the edge of the tile fragments scratches each other to see the broken pieces of broken pieces is fine or loose, is hard, brittle or softer, is left scratches, or scattered powder, if the former is the top grade, the latter is quality difference. Brief introduction of tiles and brick selection
Q: We have a hardwood floor in our bathroom, and because it gets too damp, we want to install vinyl tiles on top of the hardwood floor. But I cannot imagine vinyl sticking to wood - can it be done successfully? Any glue tips??
If you do that you will STILL have a hardwood floor that will get damp, only it will be underneath vinyl tiles, and you might find problems in the future with buckling, swelling etc because the vinyl and wood will not shrink or expand at the same rate. Best just to take an extra day, remove the hardwood and start fresh
Q: I just bought a new houses that we will build. The decorator went through the selection of tile and want to charge us $9000 for 1500 sf surface and $6800 for a group 3 granite counter top with island. It feels a little pricy. Anybody have experience with new builder and want to expect for flooring and granite counter top?
I think the builder usually order the quality granite (made in Italian? or special pattern). If you get the contractor outside, it is much cheaper 'cause they suggest you to use China Granite. It was also beautiful much cheaper. if you don't mind about the hassel, don't upgrade through builder. You can upgrade after that also save $$ on property tax.
Q: I am going to lay bathroom floor tiles in my bathroom but I have some questions before I start. 1. Can I lay the new tiles over the existing floor, which is vinyl flooring? Or do I have to remove that first? 2. If I have to remove the vinyl flooring do I have to add cement backer board? Or can I lay the tile right over whatever is under the vinyl flooring? 3. I have trim along that floor that I will be re-attaching, do I lay the tile right up to the wall or do I put a space in between the wall and the edge tile? Do I then grout into that space between the wall and the edge tile?
pull up the vinyl and mortar AND screw down Hardybacker board . dont buy that crap gypsum board from lowes or that foam stuff. dont EVER lay tile down over wood... EVER lay your tile 1/4 inch away from the walls. and then your base board and base shoe will lay over the tile and it'll look great. grab some 1/8 spacers.... lay with a 1/8th inch gap and it will look much nicer.
Q: I'm decorating my bathroom with a soothing and relaxing water theme (sand and water colours - beige, white, earthy brown, pale blue, and pale green). I need a backsplash behind my sink and tiles in the shower area. Any ideas that would work with this theme?
For the shower, I'd go for beige tiles with earthy brown grout (even with pale blue and pale green accents if you really want to make it decorative). That way it fits nicely with your theme and even if the shower gets dirty, the colors would disguise it nicely. For the backsplash, personally, I'd stick with the same color tile so it's kind of unified, but there I wouldn't use brown grout, I think it might look to harsh, so probably go with a white or off-white. Any tile store can get you colors similar to those that you already are or plan on using.
Q: Anybody know of any apps/programs that give the user the ability to make custom sized metro tiles, similar to the windows phone?
abode windows 8 sucks and right here's why: -it does no longer make your computing gadget speedier...Microsoft basically says that as a thanks to get basic funds from basic minded people like you and they fail to people like me who really comprehend stuff about pcs, in truth abode windows 8 makes use of extra ability. operating platforms do no longer make your computing gadget magically speedier, its the cpu,ram and the motherboard extra usually than not. -it has no initiate botton -that is particularly a lot a pill operating gadget for use on a computing gadget/laptop. there is extra i'm leaving out yet considering the fact that i dont own a computing gadget with abode windows 8 i dont comprehend. and countless different the different those who spoke back saying dont pay interest on your clueless pal bla,bla,bla... you adult men are the clueless ones and all of us comprehend what's nice. and abode windows 8 isn't a progression, that is a degraded piece of **** OS. someone ought to step-in at Microsoft and regulate it.
Q: What procedure to use to keep the tiles from falling from the ceiling before the mortar dries.
I was just thinking about this. Can you attach the tiles to backerboard or Durrock on the ground first and then glue the whole ceiling into place with 2x4 proping it up or leave a couple tiles out to also catch a few screws with the construction adhesive. later you can touch up around the edges and grout If NotHow about contact cement use alot of it though not a thin coat. OH and don't use mortar use construction adhesive it will actually stick and better then mastic. Mortar is for the floor
