- Q:I just finished laying tile in my shower. How long do I need to wait before I grout? If it makes any difference they are simple 4 inch white tiles. Also, just out of curiosity, I was told I needed to spread the adhesive on the wall and place the tiles over that. It seems like it would have been easier to apply the adhesive to the back of the tiles. Especially the last few tiles. Does this make any difference?
- I put adhesive on wall as base and lightly spread adhesive onto back of tile to help create stronger bond. Follow adhesive instructions for grouting, cure times vary with adhesives. Better to wait than not to have adhesive set and wind up with moisture troubles and loose tiles from adhesion loss.
- Q:In a professionaly done job, what level of imperfection is acceptable. 12x12 porcellaine tile installed over backerboatd.at least a dozen tiles set either higher, lower, or tilted. Comapny says this is acceptable.
- I wouldn't consider that acceptable. They should all be pretty much flush.
- Q:We laid tile in our Master bath about a month and a half ago. Now we have 2 tiles that are crackd. I would like to no what caused it. We have a slab foundation.
- It depends on what you used as the adhesive. You may not have enough thinset/tile adhesive under the cracked tiles OR the slab floor was not leveled properly. You will have to remove those 2 tiles and scrape the adhesive off the floor and check for level. Once that is done you can re-apply thinset adhesive as that is the best for flooring applications, and re-set the tiles in the new thinset and tap them down a little bit so they are level with the tiles around them.
- Q:is it correct if i divide 198 by 2.25= 88 tiles? help ty
- 88 tiles is correct .. But the highest I d ever do to figure scrap is 10% and thats high. 10% of 198 is 19.8 s/f round off to 20 s/f. 20 s/f divided by 2.25 s/f is 8.88 tile or 9 tile. Most I would get 97 tile. But tile is some times sold by the whole carton so figure that into the equation. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q:My house is in the top floor, the water pipe in the bathroom, and then all the water pipes in the bathroom are clear, the new house, the ground with a tile, surrounded by walls and tiles, no shower or something, the bathroom put a Taiwan washing machine, a Faucet, the ground water is generally the washing machine drain row to the ground and then flow through the water hole. Now the situation is not posted on the side of the tile watermark, the walls of the white putty from the package off. After inspection found the gap between the tile is white, because the tile is white. Suspected to be caused by seepage between the cracks. Do not want to tear tiles to re-engage. Is there a good way to solve it? Buy a private room, certainly not done waterproof
- ust stay in the new house, cement paste the tile produced a hollowing, a long time caused the tiles off; no gaps in the gap of the tile paving, experienced a temperature difference on the corner of the burst ... ... real life, we often encounter The above situation: spent several months, spent tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of houses decorated, not from the fresh freshness came out, in the kitchen, health and other space encountered a pile of trouble. Of course, some consumers because there is no choice of the right brand and high-quality products caused by some consumer distress.
- Q:What is Spanish Tile, why is it called Spanish Tile, and is this considered a good flooring option? And how does it feel in summer and winter (concrete slab floor below)?
- Spanish tile is pretty much just what is sounds like. It is tile imported from Spain. Sometimes tile imported from Mexico is called Spanish tile. This is a favorite in a lot of Southwestern Architecture - I had it throughout my home when I lived in Santa Fe. It is a beautiful tile and is an excellent choice for flooring. As is true with anything you have to make sure you are getting a good quality product. It is essentially the same as most floor tile as far as maintenance goes - nothing special because it is Spanish.
- Q:Sanding parquet floor tiles, advice please. My hall floor is covered in parquet tiles. The tiles themselves are made up on 1 inch by 5 inch sections, 5 to a tile. The tiles are laid so that the grain on the tiles is alternate and opposite its neighbour. So the grain on some go North-South, the next in line goes East-WestMy sander has a face larger than any one tile.Do I have to sand along the grain, in which case I‘d have to buy a tiny grinder, or can I just sand all over the tiles and not bother about sanding along the grain? Assuming I have sanded, how do I seal the completed job? Varnish?
- complex stuff. seek using google and yahoo. it will help!
- Q:the bathroom at work has lenulium sheet. I slip when it rains, b cos it is wet. I want to replace home carpeting with tiles or vynal. which one is less slippery? thanks
- I m assuming you mean ceramic tiles. Texture or not even tiles can be slippery. What you need to check on tiles is the COF rating or slip resistance. There are tiles that are smooth and can have a rating of 5 ( highest and very few have this rating) which is a commercial rated tile, good for malls and where the public walks on them a lot. 3/4 is the most common for residential and you can find these are very common. Most all tiles 8 or larger is at least a 3 rating. Not all but most all. Take into account all hard surfaces are slippery when wet or you have wet feet and there may also be a sealer or coating on vinyl at work ( especially if theres an out side janitorial service cleaning them) that is making the surface slick too. But over all ceramic will be less slick than vinyl, Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q:A roofing tile falls from rest off the roof of a building. An observer from across the street notices that it takes 0.32 s for the tile to pass between two windowsills that are 3.49 m apart. How far is the sill of the upper window from the roof of the building?
- The tile falls with a constant acceleration of g, at the upper sill it will have achieved some velocity V What we know that if falls 3.49 m in a time of 0.32 sec, starting with the velocity V and accelerating at g d = Vt + 0.5gt^2 3.49 = 0.32V + 4.9(0.32)^2 V = 9.34 m/s Now just find how far something would have to fall to achieve a speed of 9.34 m/s using Vf^2 = Vi^2 + 2ad Vf = 9.34 m/s, Vi = 0 m/s , a = g = 9.8 m/s^2 9.34^2 = 2(9.8)d d = 4.45 m from the roof
- Q:There are thousands of individual tiles. If one falls off or something like that does everything burn up? thanks and how did the heat shield not work for the shuttle in 2003? it might have been in 2001 i have to ask my science teacher
- The Columbia disaster happened because during launch some insulation came off the external tank and hit the leading edge of the wing, right between the two tiles and damaged the seal. During the re-entry, the hot gases from the re-entry friction got behind the tile and melted the wing structure. A few tiles fall off during flight, but it is not a big problem, less so than during the early years of shuttle operations. If you look at the shuttles, some tiles appear fresher then others.
