Q: What‘s the average cost to install tile baseboards? I‘m replacing my wooden baseboards with tile and was just wondering what an average price to just do the baseboards with tile. I have roughly 1500 inches of floorboard that is going to be done and I am looking to use 20 X 20 inch tile. Q: Can you have tile insalled in your kitchen w/o using grout in between tiles? Or, can you space the tiles very close together so there is very little grout? I just keep hearing about how hard it is to clean grout.: In a kitchen you will be aiming for a impermeable surface to prevent water seepage so applying tiles without grout is not a good idea. Furthermore, the gaps between the tiles will enevitably harbor dirt and bacteria. Laying tiles with very little grout should be okay although this may be hard because you won't be able to use standard spacers. There are some very easy to clean grouts and grout substitues on the market these days. Try finding one that markets itself as easy cleaning or choose a colour that doesn't should up dirt and stains too badly. Also, there are now may alternatives to tiles that can look like the real thing (complete with fake grout) but are very easy to clean and maintain.

Q: I don‘t want to take my tiles off my bathroom walls, but i would like to put some mosaic tiles up, can i put them on top of existing tiles: Yes under some special conditions.. Q: why is waterproofing done before grouting?why do we need to let the mortar/adhesive dry before grouting?: Should the grout come away it can damage underneath especially in shower areas. You should use green moisture resistant plasterboard but ideally cement board on top as it is waterproof and perfect for tiling. Grout will eventually become discoloured and fall away over time in wet areas. Using correct technique in applying adhesive ( notched trowel or plastic notched spreader ) evenly and working within you capability will give you a good result, many try to do too much in one go....which is Ok for the professional. This way the tile will not come away. When applying tile on adhesive try a slight twisting motion to firm the tile in place, by placing finger on the front of tile....Important allow tile adhesive to dry fully before applying grout it takes 12 hrs approx as manufacturers spec. If tile when tapping makes a different sound (kinda hollow sound) it is loose and will need to be removed. Scrap out old adhesive and redo. Tip: Buy sealer (spray for grout) in excessively wet areas as it will extend the grout life and very good for shower areas. You can but sealer applicators but slow....mask and vent out when using spray as not good to breathe in and smell at first....
