- Q: Some people say that only natural tiles have radiation. Cheap certainly not a natural stone, there will be no radiation, is that right?
- In fact, nothing is a little harm ah. The Said the stone has radiation, but in the end what harm, stone factory workers, selling stone businessmen are not jumping, did not see who said: I was radiation, and very serious
- Q: Our kitchen has vinyl tile squares from the 70‘s for the floor. Underneath that is terrazzo (sp?) and nothing else. They are proving to be a massive pain in the butt to remove so I was wondering if we even really need to. They are very thin and very stuck. Can we just skip tearing them out and go ahead with the new ceramic tile install?
- Lowe's will sell you a scraper on a long handle (replaceable blades on the good one) with a 10 inch or so width. Heat with a torch, then scrape up. Worth doing it right, if worth doing at all. If you put tile over laminate, you'll be really mad at yourself when you have to remove tnd throw away all that money and work a year or so from now.
- Q: Has anyone every used Ceramic Tiles to re-do bathroom floors? I‘ve seen it done on HGTV but just wanted to knw if it was really that easy?
- If you buy a good tile cutter , take your time and use spacers it is pretty easy. It takes a few days because you have to let it dry good before grouting. Then you need to let the grout dry for at least one day before you seal it .IT MUST BE SEALED . Or all your work will be for not. If it is your first time I would suuggest using smaller tiles, easier to cut. And NEVER start in a corner!
- Q: I am installing some mesh mounted 12x12 glass tiles sheets on one wall of my kitchen (behind the stove). I was reading online how to do it and I have a question. Some sites say to put the bottom tiles flush with the counter top and some sites say to use 1/8 spacers between the countertop and the bottom of the tiles and fill in with grout colored cauk. Which should I do? Thanks
- I ve done hundreds and there is no right or wrong. I like to leave the tile , and it don t matter what type of tile, right down to the counter top. Then the grout is very thin and shows less when it does crack. And it will crack from temp and humidity changes effecting walls, counter tp etc. Then you caulk with a thin bead of caulk. Caulk and grout , because they are 2 different substances never perfectly match. Only white hides the best on white grout. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: How can i get hair dye stains off tiled flooring?
- Put rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and wipe This may take several minutes so don't give up
- Q: My friend‘s bathroom floor is light-colored marble tile. His new navy blue shower mat bled navy dye and stained the tile. It‘s pretty soaked into the tile and won‘t wipe off. Is it a lost cause to try to remove it, or does anyone have any ideas to get the stain out? Thanks a lot!

- Q: Well I grouted my glass tile backsplash today and let it dry, now it is ready to be cleaned off, but i am completely exhausted! can i clean it off tomorrow or will it be too late? grout container said to let it dry for 4 hrs before cleaning off with a dry cloth. yeah right, a dry cloth does not do the trick. only a damp linen cloth used to scrub each individual little tile gets the haze and bits of left over grout off and that is going to literally take me all night. so can i do that tomorrow or do i need to pull an all nighter???
- no longer something is needed, in basic terms use a moist sponge and rinse frequently. once you have wiped each and all the surplus grout off the tiles, enable them to dry over night, then wipe down the tile with a delicate fabric (tub Towel) this would take off the haze on the tile. Then all this is left is to seal the grout.
- Q: Im looking into renovating our kitchen and thought i would cut some costs with doing some renovating ourselves. Is tiling easy to do yourself, how is it done and what surfaces can they be laid on?Thanks
- Laying tile isn't hard,go to Lowe's or home depot and get a tile saw,it doesn't have to be a high dollar one, they have Rhino board for the places that have to be stable and moisture proof, and get the trawl for it,it doesn't take a lot of the glue, you'll see the teeth on the side of the trawl, put some on the wall or floor, run the trawl(teeth side towards the surface, leave lines of glue about 3/16 s thick, that's enough to hold it,if it big tile squares make it a little thicker, they also have some spacers for putting between the tile, keeps it straight as well, then let it harden up and grout it,have several 5 gallon buckets of Fresh water(replenish the water when dirty) and a good sponge for wiping it down shortly after grouting.
- Q: My mothers house has 9 tiles on her bathroom floor and I understand they are made with asbestos. Some of the tiles are starting to lift and I am concerned about how to remove and dispose of them, any suggestions?
- I would not advise you do it yourself. If you really need to DIY. soak the tiles and dont break them and you can hire a special type of skip i think. Experts are the best for this job, expensive but not as expensive as your life!!
- Q: Hi,We put porcelain tiles on our kitchen floor.Unfortunately the contractor did not do a great job. He did not clean it properly and now the grout is all over the tiles. its been 1 month the they put the tiles. How can I take grout off the tiles? I got a grout cleaner from Home depot but its not working as it should be. Please advise
- You can use Muratec acid, but use it carefully. Wear rubber gloves, and use it slowly, try and take it off in small layers. Don't pour it on and let it set too long. Porcelain has a continuous color all the way through, so there might be a little dulling in the sheen from the glaze being removed, but just re-seal the tile. If your contracted through a tile outlet, and they recommended the contractor, he is responsible for the install and final product. Take photos before you try to clean it, and take them to the store and have them repair it. There is no sense in you trying to fix what should have been done right the first time. I have had to go behind other installers that did a slop job -grout lines crooked, tiles cut wrong, wavy floors to repair them-sometimes having to completely rip up the whole floor and start over at the company expense. Be sure when having any contracted work done that you are satisfied with the final work, once you sign off on it and pay them, you are releasing them from obligation from that point on.
